Maverick City Music Singer Dante Bowe Gives Non-apology ‘Apology’ After Being Suspended

Days after worship band Maverick City Music announced they were “pausing” their relationship with singer Dante Bowe after he demonstrated “behavior that is inconsistent with our core values and beliefs,” Bowe himself has released a since-deleted statement seemingly only disguised as an apology.

I sincerely apologize for the impact of my behavior and that it has offended many people on the platform we share together. This experience has been a very real reminder of the importance of being incredibly intentional with how I utilize and engage with the tools social platforms provide.

Throughout this process, I have received wise counsel which influenced my decision to take a step back and reflect about my actions so that I may recommit to living in the purpose God has for my life.

While he may have made private amends, nowhere in his last two statements has he publicly apologized for the behavior itself, but rather only the “impact” of his behavior on others. Likewise, he does not admit to any wrongdoing, only that his behavior “offended many people” on Instagram. It’s essentially a dressed-up version of ‘I’m sorry you were offended.’

Though no specific cause was given, it’s believed that part of the reason stems from a video of him that was released partying and singing the Bad Bunny song “Despues De La Playa,” a Spanish song with filthy lyrics that caused the band no end of controversy. Other reasons for his dismissal have been unconfirmed.

Editor’s Note. When is the Maverick City Music bandmember  who recently came out as pro-choice going to be dealt with?
