AOC Says Pro-Life Position Designed to Help Corporations Maintain a Large Workforce

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has likened the raft of pro-life laws sweeping across the country in light of the overturning of Row v. Wade to ‘economic conscription.’ She argues that by refusing to allow women to kill their babies, the mothers are forced to work several jobs to provide for the children against their will, to the advantage of employee-strapped corporations needing a large workforce.

Y”ou know, I think it’s important to state that, that abortion is an economic issue. Forcing poor and working class people to give birth, against their will, against their consent, against their ability to provide for themselves or a child, is a profound economic issue.

And it’s certainly a way to keep a workforce basically, conscripted to large scale employers and to… work more against their will, to take second and third jobs against their desire and their own autonomy.

And so the idea that abortion and access to abortion is somehow not a profound and central economic and class issue and class struggle, is certainly something that I think a person who’s never had to contend with the ability to carry a child you know, it belies that perspective.”

“Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. ” – Luke 12:27-31
