Joel Osteen To Bring Gospel-Less Gloom In Major ‘Evangelistic’ Event: ‘It’s Not Deep or Theological’
Arch-heretics Joel and Victoria Osteen, the impastor and impastorette duo who lead Lakewood Church, the 600,000-square-foot, 16,000-seat behemoth located in the former Compaq Center that has an annual budget of nearly $90,000,000, 368 full-time and part-time staff, and wich spends nearly 1.7 million dollars each week on operations, are set to host their first major outdoor ‘crusade’ in more than two years, heading up their yearly ‘Night of Hope’ on August 6th at Yankee stadium.
In an interview with The Christian Post, Osteen states that when the stadium offered him the slot after putting the show on hold these last two years on account of COVID, it was as if it was a message from God.
“I think it’s God’s way of saying, ‘Come back to hope, come back to faith, come back to church, come back to living again. A lot of dreams have been put on hold, but hopefully we can inspire some people to believe again.”
Of the 40,000+ people who are expected to attend this event, which is 25$ a ticket and which will see him gross a cool million dollars, Osteen claims that between 70%-80% will ‘dedicate their lives to Jesus.’ And why wouldn’t they, with this message devoid of sin and repentance:
It’s a night filled with inspiration. It’s about letting go of the old, getting ready for the new things God wants to do and believing for the goodness that God has for us…We want to ignite people’s faith. A lot of times, we get weighed down with life, worry and stress, and we forget to breathe and believe that God has good things in store for us.
…When thousands of people get together — and they may not all know the Lord — but they’re coming there because they’re drawn to God, I believe that just creates an atmosphere for healing and miracles and salvation and new beginnings.
As far as what the secret to his church’s success is and how he’s been able to grow to50,000 members goatlins, Osteen credits his lack of theology and depth to draw in the world.
I think part of it is, we’re accepting of everybody. Part of it is, the message is not deep and theological — it’s theological, maybe not deep, but it’s something that everyone can understand, and it permeates with love for people and for God and not judging people.”
In short; it’s a false gospel and it brings in false converts.
The gospel of Joel Osteen, the “good news” that he brings is that ‘God loves you and wants to save you from a life of mediocrity and small dreams. Therefore, if you believe in God and be obedient to him, God will give you a plan for your life that includes big dreams, self-esteem, favor, health and wealth, influence, a better job, a positive self-image, and a fulfilled life free of negativity.’
That’s it. That’s what it’s all about. That is the sum of just about every book, every sermon, every media appearance, and every tweet of Joel Osteen, condensed into a few sentences. It’s the prosperity gospel on steroids and it doesn’t work for the poorest of the poor, but it does work for lost people looking to cut corners to a falsely promised prosperous life.
That being said, there is something very important to understand about Joel Osteen: He does talk about God. A lot. You cannot accuse the man of not mentioning him because he’s all over that. Despite the voluminous references, however, is the fact that he never really in a personal sense.
Joel talks about God, but it’s always in a vague and amorphous sense. There is certainly nothing distinctly Christian or biblical about it. There’s nothing doctrinal or theological about the way he talks about God. Rather is an ethereal, shapeless, formless, customizable, singular being thing that is out there called God that functions like a cosmic vending machine whose sole purpose is seemingly to bless you and make your life better. Even when he mentions God, it’s not ABOUT God, but it’s about what God can do for YOU.
