Denzel Washington Gets Baptized at COGIC Church, Gets Ministry License
Weeks after admitting he kissed another man for a movie and lamented that the cut wasn’t included in the film, professing Christian Denzel Washington has been baptized by Archbishop Christopher Bryant at Kelly Temple in New York City on Saturday, along with receiving his minister’s license the same day.
Washington, 69, is a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Los Angeles who has been recognized in Hollywood for being vocal about his Christian faith for decades.
Describing the license as his “greatest accomplishment,” Washington explained in a post-baptism testimony that when he was just twenty, a prophetess in his church prophesied over him that he would preach to millions. Now, fifty years after the fact he notes:
“It took a while, but I’m finally here… If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit, and there’s no limit to the sky. Anything and everything I can do, I will do for this church, for the Almighty. I just want to be in that number when the saint goes marching in…This world and its fame & riches will fade away, but only what you do for CHRIST will LAST!!!!”
Washington’s chosen denomination, COGIC, is a holiness Pentecostal denomination whose distinctive includes the belief that baptism of the Holy Ghost is something that not all believers receive and is subsequent to salvation, being given only to those who ask for it.
They also believe in the concept of “entire sanctification” while here on earth, where, as one writer puts it, when one is entirely sanctified, “the inner rebellion of our hearts is defeated and the entire sin problem is dealt with decisively. Entire sanctification purifies the heart from all remaining sin.”
Notably, this is the same denomination that employs Bishop Talbot Swan, who regularly spews hateful, racist posts on a near-daily basis.
So Denzel Washington is in a black supremacist cult. I can see that.
