Jerry Falwell Digs Up The Bodies: Accuses University Leaders of Sexual and Financial Misconduct

Disgraced former Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr. has tossed a couple of grenades into the public view during his nasty lawsuit with his former school, accusing several former leaders of hypocritical sexual misconduct and financial impropriety.

This is all part of an ongoing legal battle between Falwell, primarily over the University’s plans to build the Jerry Falwell Center, a $35M shrine to his later father, which includes a hologram tour showcasing his likeness and quotes from him emblazoned on the walls.

Falwell Jr. insists that a trust controlled by him and his siblings holds the exclusive rights to his father’s name, intellectual property, and likeness and that the University has continued to use these without the family’s nod of approval, stating that because his father operated his school and ministry unimpeachably, he doesn’t want his name dragged through the mud or linked to the scandals that lay just under the surface.

Though Falwell played a significant role in tarnishing the school’s reputation all on his own after resigning over a sex scandal in 2020 following scandalous photos of him taken on a yacht, he claims in his amended complaint that former interim Liberty President Jerry Prevo, along with former SBC President Jerry Vines, skimmed off university funds for their pet projects and private affair. He accuses Prevo of taking the University’s private jet on multiple personal trips to his homes in Alaska and Arizona, each trip costing $35,000 and $20,000 a pop, and Vines of conveniently receiving $100,000 in donations to ‘Jerry Vines Ministries’ from the school just months after joining their Executive Committee. According to WSET:

“The complaint (also) makes the case that Falwell was being held to a standard that did not apply to other high-ranking university officials. The complaint alleges that several other incidents were not met with the same punitive action:

  • One former University President was sued by a former Liberty employee for sexual harassment (and paid out a settlement) but was not removed from his position.
  • The former Dean of Liberty’s School of Divinity, the late Dr. Edward Hindson, had an extramarital affair during his time at Liberty but was not removed from his position.
  • The former provost of Liberty, Dr. Ronald Godwin, had an extramarital affair with his secretary while working at a Liberty affiliate Moral Majority, Inc., but was not removed from his position.
  • A current member of the Executive Committee has admitted to previously having more than one affair.

Unlike other university officials, the complaint alleges that Falwell was not the recipient of Liberty’s “long-standing culture of forgiveness.”

If anyone knows where the bodies are buried, it’s Falwell, and he’s not afraid to dig them up.

Documentary Featuring Jerry Falwell Sex-Scandal Airing Nov. 1

Update: See our commentary on the film here.

Disgraced evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr, the former head of Liberty University, is about to featured in the Hulu documentary God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, which is being released in just a few days. According to IndieWire:

The documentary is built around interviews with Giancarlo Granda, who met Fallwell’s wife Becki as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach and engaged in a years-long affair with her. Granda alleged that the affair occurred with the knowledge and approval of Jerry Falwell, and that he occasionally watched the two have sex, which he has denied.

News of the affair became public in 2020, when Reuters published a story based on Granda’s account. The resulting controversy forced Falwell to resign from his position as president of Liberty University, the Evangelical University established by his father.

It is unclear if it will also touch upon the catalyst for how much of this came to light in the first place, which was after Falwell accidentally and drunkenly posted an image and video on Instagram of a Trailer Park Boys-themed party his family was having on a yacht, which blew everything wide open and brought him intense scrutiny.

Warning, immodest and crude content in trailer.

Jerry Falwell Jr. Brings Multi-million Dollar Defamation Lawsuit Against Liberty University

Jerry Falwell Jr., the former President of Liberty University filed a defamation suit against his former employer, alleging destruction of reputation, improper, malicious, and politically-motivated haranguing against him, as well as breach of contract following his ousting as leader of the largest Christian university in the world

Falwell was caught with pants unbuttoned partying on a yacht cosplaying with his family as the Trailer Park Boys , ‘liking’ and giving ‘thumbs up’ to semi-nude students on social media, and for allegedly participating in sexual perversions and sundry forms of cuckoldry. As s result of these actions he was consequently let go as president of the University, leaving officially on good terms, which let him keep a $10,000,000 severance package.

The lawsuit alleges:

Falwell is seeking a pretty penny. While the official word is that he’s asking for an “undisclosed sum,” given the nature of what Falwell is alleging, he is effectively seeking tens of millions of dollars along with a gag order and an NDA to prevent the University from publicly criticizing him and his actions going forward.

While Liberty has not responded yet to the charges, we reported last week that they took the next step in their pledge to launch a comprehensive review of their business operations and shady practices, hiring global forensic law firm Baker Tilly US to investigate the University, as well as setting up a website to “facilitate the reporting of potential misconduct to the investigative team.”
