Gay-Affirming North Point Church Leader Responds to Protestia ‘I’ve Never Been More Proud’

A few months ago, as we began flagging all the gay-affirming pastors and leaders at Andy Stanley’s North Point Church, (see endnotes) we introduced you to Cameron Smith, the Creative Director of Design at North Point Community Church. NPM Creative is an in-house creative team whose goal is to help their ministries, campuses, and partners “create better.”

We explained that, like many other leaders at the church, Smith has all sorts of troubling beliefs, including being LGBTQ+ affirming and the epitome of a progressive liberal. He’s a big fan of Rob Bell, doesn’t think Roe v. Wade should had been overturned, is against bills that ban sex-changes in minors, said that he grieved deeply when Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, and has a penchant for tweeting out Very Bad Things.

He recently discovered that post.

Smith has been busy revealing more of himself over the last few months, with a few notable tweets and retweets being:

Noted apologist Chris Rosebrough, having read the article and seeing the response, sought to correct and rebuke Smith, who was seemingly too glib to care.

Sadly, Smith is not the first LGBTQ-affirming North Point Community Church leader to bristle at being called to the carpet, and he won’t be the last.

Exclusive. CCM Artist Sara Groves Comes Out as Gay-Affirming

Sara Groves is an award-winning CCM artist. Gaining prominence in the early 2000s, she was nominated for three Dove Awards, including New Artist of the Year in 2002, and was named one of the best Christian music artists of 2005. Her album ‘Add to the Beauty’ with songs like “When it was Over” and “It’s going to be Alright” received critical acclaim and was named Album of the Year by CCM Magazine in 2005.

But like Amy GrantJennifer KnappJars of Clay, DC Talk’s Kevin MaxRelient KSwitchfootFive Iron Frenzy, and many more, Groves has become gay-affirming, referring to herself as a “baby ally.”

During a 2020 concert for Renovus, a gay-affirming organization founded by Brian Nietzel* and whose board members include pastors and leaders at Andy Stanley’s North Point Community Church, Groves explains some of her journeys into shifting her view on homosexuality from opposition to allyship.

Editor’s Note.* Nietzel is a gay man ‘married’ to his husband, and he is set to be a speaker at an upcoming Christian family conference at Andy Stanley’s church. Curiously, almost all the speakers are gay-affirming.

Pope affirms parents of LGBT kids: ‘God loves your children as they are’

Pope Francis continued his trend of making off-the-cuff gay-affirming statements to those pushing him on the issue, this time telling a group of parents who have homosexual kids that “God loves your children as they are.”

The comments were made during a 30-minute private audience Pope Francis had with members of Tenda di Gionata in the papal library of the Apostolic Palace.

‘Tenda di Gionata is translated’ to “Jonathan’s Tent” and is a pro-LGBT advocacy group comprised of Roman Catholic parents who have homosexual children. The group’s name, ‘Jonathan’s Tent’ is based on the twisting of scripture that says that David and Jonathan were lovers.

The parents came to plea and convince the pope to relent on the church’s official positon on homosexuality. One of the parents told Francis that she and others in the group had come to think of themselves as fortunate and blessed because having gay children forced them to change the way they viewed their kids. Mara Grassi, vice president of Jonathan’s Tent, said:

“What we have now is a new gaze that has allowed us to see in them the beauty and love of God…We want to create a bridge with the Church so that the Church too can change its gaze towards our children, no longer excluding them but welcoming them fully.”

Francis replied to this heartfelt plea from the parents:

“The church does not exclude them because she loves them deeply.”

and later:

“The church loves your children as they are because they are children of God.”

Along with the meeting from these parental activists trying to convince Francis to make the church affirming of sodomy, they also gave him a book with stories of people who had come to accept and embrace their gay identity, as well as a rainbow-colored T-shirt with the words ‘In love, there is no fear’ emblazoned on the front of it.

Pope Francis recently made other comments that indicated an acceptance of homosexuality, such as when he allegedly affirmed the sexuality of a gay priest.
