Prominent “prophet” Shawn Bolz has responded to allegations of sexual harassment and abuse from Bethel Church leaders, along with claims that he was data mining Facebook for information to prophesy about people.
He shared in an email with supporters that he won’t “engage in online narratives or speculation” and that he plans to begin a sabbatical.
Bolz, who has been facing accusations for years, including prophesying that a woman should marry an abusive strangler who later tried to kill her, revealed:
Hello friends,
In recent days, renewed attention has surfaced around my life and ministry, much of it revisiting matters first addressed years ago.
Since 2019, I have been in a serious, ongoing process of personal growth and accountability, supported by counseling, pastoral care, professional guidance, my family, and leadership oversight. This work has been real, sustained, and important to me.
I won’t engage in online narratives or speculation. What I can say is that I have been intentional about pursuing growth, accountability, and health in my life. Given the current climate, I’ve decided to step back from public ministry leadership and enter a season of sabbatical, so this work can continue with care and integrity.
I’m thankful for those who walked this journey with us and ask for grace and privacy in this season.

Yep, the spirit of man can somewhat govern the corrupted flesh. But it’s a lot of hard work, it’s not a free gift, and it’s never enough. It’s impossible to fake for very long. What he needs is to be truly born again, and truly indwelled by the Holy Spirit. He’s just another typical charismatic hyper-focused on the Holy Spirit, while entirely “denying the power thereof”, denying the first and foremost work of the Holy Spirit, and thereby denying the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If he’s going to do all that work, he might as well just publicly deny the entire Gospel, go to some Hindu monastery somewhere and start working real, real hard learning how to try to control himself and keep his wickedness at bay, and stay there the rest of his life, because he’ll never be able to do so of his own accord. Even in his (very weak) repentance, he leads many astray by a false counterfeit gospel. The truth is that he’s not truly born again. That’s the absolute truth of the matter. And for his own sake, and the sake of all who followed him, considering eternal ramifications, it must be said.
It’s an insidious false doctrine that basically says the Holy Spirit has all power to heal the flesh of every illness and infirmity imaginable, except the sin nature inherent from Adam. When it comes to their own sin, all the sudden the Holy Spirit is deemed to be entirely powerless. The end result of such false doctrine, is that they are governed by their corrupted flesh, live in service to it, and are enslaved in their sin. So they go to church the next time the doors are open hoping there will be more and more revelation, more and more prophesying, and more and more flesh-pleasing satisfaction, because the corrupt flesh is never content. Just look at their leaders, many of whom are extremely rich, but it’s never enough. They’re never content. Never fulfilled. And that’s because they live in service to their flesh, denying the first and foremost work of the Holy Spirit, thereby denying the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
in other words, no admission of sin or repentance. Nothing to see here, folks, move along…fugeddaboutit
