Five years after its launch, Fr. Mike Schmitz’s mega-popular podcast ‘Bible in a Year,’ the world’s #1 religion podcast, is approaching a billion downloads.
Founded in January 2021, Schmitz, a Roman Catholic priest, releases one 14- to 20-minute podcast a day, walking people through the entire Bible in 365 episodes, providing commentary, reflections, and prayer.
Presently, it is outperforming other well-known shows on the iTunes charts, including The Joe Rogan Experience, Dateline NBC, and Stuff You Should Know, and has a massive worldwide audience.
According to a press release announcing the milestone:
“The podcast topped the overall Apple Podcast charts in 2021 and 2022, and has consistently ranked #1 on Apple’s Religion & Spirituality charts, becoming the most successful religious podcast of all time.”
As for the host, “Fr. Mike Schmitz serves as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth and as Chaplain for the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Commenting on the success of the show, Schmitz revealed: “I get quite emotional. I never imagined in my entire life that I would get the chance to read the Bible with and to so many people. Hearing how God’s Word has transformed people’s lives blows me away. This is God’s work; I just got to be the narrator.”
