The Youversion Bible reached a milestone several weeks ago, celebrating more than a billion installs across its family of apps.
Created in 2007 by Bobby Grunenwald for Life. Church and launched as one of the first free apps ever in the 2008 Apple store, they originally hoped to get 60,000 downloads in the first year, but passed that mark in the first three days.
Since the original Bible App was released, YouVersion has “grown to help people engage with the Bible… offering over 3,600 Bible translations in over 2,300 language.” while “meeting the unique spiritual needs of regions around the world through localisation and partnership.”
For this reason, YouVersion’s global network has “expanded to include over 31,000 partners, including 7,224 Content Partners and 25,000+ churches.”
The app has 84 English versions of the Bible, including some favored by progressives, such as the NRSVue, and other oddities such as Bethel Church’s The Passion Translation, The Message Bible, and even the Ya’ll Bible.
They don’t have just Bible versions, however. They also offer thousands of devotionals, studies, and bible reading plans.
Bible Plans, a popular Verse of the Day feature, Guided Prayer, video content, and tools designed for both personal reflection and community engagement. On average, the platform adds more than 1,200 pieces of content—including videos and devotional Plans—each month.
Want a ‘Chosen’ bible study plan? No worries, there are seven of them, including this one:

“Join The Chosen and some of your favorite leading voices for a moving mixture of screen and Scripture during November’s 30-Day Bible Challenge. Together we’ll explore how God revealed himself through Jesus as he walked on earth. Each day features clips from The Chosen and written reflections by Jennie Allen, Brandon Lake, Annie F. Downs, Phil Wickham, Jackie Hill Perry, Levi Lusko, Olivia Lane, CRU, Prison Fellowship, and Stuart Knechtle.”
YouVersion is completely and has no ads, being supported by donations and Life.Church funding.
