Grammy-nominated artist Mike Posner recently shared a video of himself being baptized, two years after announcing he’d become a Christian.
Six months ago, Poser revealed he’s rewritten the lyrics to his hit song “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” to better reflect his newfound faith and the profound ways his life has changed more than a dozen years after its release.
Posner wrote the original song during a time when he was searching for meaning at the height of his fame, following the success of his earlier hit “Cooler Than Me.” The massive success of “I Took a Pill in Ibiza”—with over 1 billion streams and a Grammy nomination—brought him recognition but also reinforced a hard truth: external achievements weren’t bringing lasting happiness.
His life has transformed significantly since then. He’s been sober for a decade and has accomplished remarkable feats of endurance, including walking across America and climbing Mount Everest. He posted in 2024 that he was wrestling towards a Christian faith, and that he found faith earlier this year while reading the bible.
Poster shared that he turned to Jesus after experiencing a “series of Christ based synchronistic events” including “a friend prophesying in Christ about my life events that I had told him nothing about” and “attending a tiny church service where electricity shot up my spine and I was left with a deep feeling of Oneness that lasted for hours.” He explains:
The veracity of these events and whether they could be pure happenstance versus “signs” from God is not that interesting to me. What is interesting is what happened afterwards.
After getting up from my knees, I really didn’t know I now believed in. As I tend to do, I went all in and started reading my little tale off. CS Lewis, Mother Teresa, and The New Testament (amongst others) where all devoured but still I was a little confused on what it meant to me to be a Christian. Some of the doctrine I heard espoused in church felt true to me and some didn’t.
Posner says he now has clarity, however, leading him to take a greater step in faith:
But in the last few weeks, that has somewhat been filled in for me.
FOR ME; To be a Christian means to aspire with all your mind, body, and soul to live as Christ did. To forgive all other people. To treat ALL other people, especially the least among us (whether that be the poorest of the poor financially or the loneliest of the lonely) with an impossible level of compassion, grace, and most of all LOVE.
It means to forgive every single person in my life including me and LOVE CHRIST BY LOVING PEOPLE. It means to live with an impossibly high standard of goodness towards others, so much so that I NEED God’s help to even get close.
It means listening to the little voice inside me (that I believe comes from God) that tells me to do right thing, even when I don’t feel like it.
It’s not just a doctrine or theology, it’s a way of life rooted in faith. For me, if it isn’t causing me to LOVE MORE PEOPLE MORE FULLY, it isn’t God.
He continues:
While there is much to be encouraged by, it is notable that there was no mention of Christ dying on the cross for the forgiveness of sins, and the state of the believer as a repentant son or daughter to whom Christ imputed his righteousness.
