Earlier this week, a grand jury indicted John Kent Tarwater, an Ohio University professor, on multiple charges of rape, sexual battery, and gross sexual imposition, according to a report in The Roys Report.
Tarwater, who worked as a finance professor at Cedarville University and who wrote an article on Christian sexual ethics in TGC’s Themelios, was charged with:
- One count of rape
- Two counts of sexual battery (forcible rape)
- One count of sexual battery (simple assault)
- Two counts of gross sexual imposition
The victim was around 10 years old at the time, and the alleged assaults occurred between August 5, 2019, and July 28, 2025.
According to Dayton 247
A spokesperson for Cedarville University says that when the university learned about the allegations in July 2025, they placed him on administrative leave and he was not allowed on campus. Cedarville says his contract was dismissed a few months later.
A statement made by the University says, in part, “This is a grievous situation, and we have encouraged our campus community to pray for healing for all affected.”
