Bible Sales Break Records in U.S, U.K., Doubling Sales in 5 Years

The Bible is 2025’s hottest book, setting record highs across both the United States and the UK, according to Circana BookScan—a group that tracks book sales through direct reporting from all major retailers and many independent bookstores.

In 2025, the Bible sold more than 19 million copies, marking a 21-year high. This surpasses the previous record of 13.7 million in the first 10 months of 2024 and is roughly double the 9.7 million Bibles sold in the United States in 2019.

The top-selling translations of the Bible were The Invitation New Testament, which is published by B&H, and The Action Bible: God’s Redemptive Story.

In a similar vein, Christian publisher SPCK found that Bible sales iin the U.K. have more than doubled since 2008, the first year they tracked these sales. They note that the amount of Bibles sold between 2024 and 2025 grew by nearly 30%, and that annual sales over the last five years climbing from £2.69 million in 2019 to £6.3 million in 2025 ( $3.6M to $8.4M USD)

The most popular bible sold in the UK last year was the ESV Bible (English Standard Version), published by Crossway.

Several Christian bookstore owners have suggested much of the growth comes from a mix of first-time buyers, with a smaller percentage being current Bible owners wanting to diversify and add new versions to their collections. For the former, these include people who pick up the scriptures after seeing social media influencers sharing their faith.
