‘The Skit Guys’ Co-founder Steps Down After 30 Years, Citing ‘moral failure’

Popular Christian performing Duo ‘The Skit Guys’ is breaking up after more than 30 years, following one of their founding members’ engaging in a ‘moral failure.’

In the announcement posted last week on SkitGuys.com and on their socials, co-founder Tommy Woodward revealed that friend and partner Eddie James has left the ministry after breaching his marital vows.

What’s happening with the Skit Guys?

The Skit Guys, after 30 years of amazing ministry, is coming to an end, but our ministry is restructuring and growing for many reasons in our continuing effort to glorify God, our Father. The primary catalyst behind these changes is that Eddie James, cofounder of Skit Guys, had to resign from our ministry based on choices he made, which all of us, including Eddie, agree were not in line with our ministry, our calling, or God’s Word.

Can you be more specific about what happened?

We are not sharing specific details, other than to say that Eddie had to step away from our ministry after he revealed choices he had made leading to a violation of our ministry’s standards and God’s requirements for marriage and ministry. Scripture is clear that leaders are called to live above reproach (1 Timothy 3:1-7), and we hold our ministry leaders to that high standard. We all fall short of God’s standards, and we have remained supportive of Eddie and his family and are respecting their privacy.

Woodward plans to continue to create faith-based content under the name 231 Collective.

There is thing called forgiveness and grace should Eddie James return to ministry. None of us are perfect and ALL have a sinful nature. Even people in this ministry in this article, besides Eddie James, where some sins have not made it to light yet will also stand in judgment from their peers, should stand to be forgiven and given the grace to continue. We ALL live in God’s grace.

Why doesn’t Eddie James from The Skit Guys just take a play from the ole Jimmy Swaggert playbook and do the “I’ve sinned.,…SHEKAMAHAAAH….WHOBABAKANDA” routine in front of the church? It worked for ole Jimmy who went on to greater acts of larceny before taking a dirt nap earlier this year.

Congratulations to the Skit Guys for being forthright about the situation. The world doesn’t need to know the particulars… the Guys and their co-workers know… that’s enough. Action has been taken to set it right with GOD and prevent it from happening again in the same or different quarters. The Church at large, all of us, should follow the Word as in this case. Praise God for His mercy.
