Bandits Attack on CAC Church Captured During Livestream, Congregants Killed and Kidnapped

A group of masked bandits attacked a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku Town in Western Nigeria last night, killing at least two and kidnapping others, all captured on the church’s livestream.

Kwara State Police spokesperson  Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the deadly attack and dismissed claims that they were slow in responding to the massacre, saying they came as soon as they heard reports of gunshots. According to NigeriaInfo

“The DPO Eruku and his team of police operatives, in collaboration with vigilantes, swiftly responded to the sound of gunshots, prompting the hoodlums to flee into the bush,” the statement read.

The command confirmed that one worshiper, Mr. Aderemi, was shot dead inside the church, while another victim, Mr. Tunde Asaba Ajayi, was later found dead in the bush. A vigilante member, Segun Alaja, sustained gunshot injuries and is receiving treatment at ECWA Hospital, Eruku.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits opened fire from outside the church before forcing their way in during an ongoing programme ahead of a night vigil, causing worshipers to scatter. Some of the attackers were masked.

According to the Ekiti-KwaraGazette, the pastor was one of the men kidnapped.
