‘It Was the Creepiest Smile.’ Amy Duggar Describes ‘Terrifying’ Moment She Confronted Josh Duggar About Molesting His Sisters
Amy Duggar King’s new memoir recounts the moment she confronted her famous cousin, Josh Duggar, over allegations that he molested his own sisters.
King, a cousin of the Duggar family featured on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, frequently appeared on the show, joining them for their adventures.
Known for managing a large family, the facade of a happy Duggar household was shattered by eldest son Josh Duggar through a series of high-publicity instances. It was revealed that he molested five young girls, including four of his own sisters, after his name surfaced on the pro-cheating website Ashley Madison, and he was later convicted for possessing child pornography, which ultimately led to a 13-year prison sentence for the father of seven.
In her new book, Holy Disruptor: Shattering the Shiny Facade While Getting Louder with the Truth, King describes a conversation she had with him regarding the allegations to PEOPLE magazine:
Amy recalls after she asked Josh why he didn’t hurt her, she said he “knew better” than to attempt such an action with her. “It was the creepiest smile,” she tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“In that moment, I just looked at him, and I was just like, ‘I don’t know you at all.'”
“It’s that realization that all the times he’s texted, and laughed, and we’ve sent memes to each other, and he called, and we had double dates, and all the things. I’m like, ‘I don’t know you at all,'” she says. “[It’s] very sad and terrifying. But I was going over there with a mission. I wasn’t getting any answers, and I’m not one of these to back down.”
