More than half of Americans say it is morally acceptable for a person facing a painful terminal disease to request a physician’s assistance in ending their life, according to a new study from Lifeway Research Group, which surveyed over 1,200 respondents last summer. The survey also found that 32% of respondents somewhat strongly or strongly disagreed with the right to assisted suicide, and another 17% were unsure.

Lifeway found that Catholics are more likely to support assisted suicide than Protestants (59% vs. 42%), despite Catholic teaching that such acts are mortal sins and expressly forbidden.
The number of people supporting physician-assisted suicide has declined over the past decade, however. In 2016, Lifeway Research Group asked the same question and found that 67% of Americans supported the right to request physician-assisted suicide, representing a 16% drop in support.

Did the study ask if they only supported assisted suicide for the opposite political part?
