The pastor of The Journey Church Fairfield, Chet Snyder, is facing multiple charges after being accused by two young men of sexual assaulting them several years ago.
Snyder, who is also the head coach of Frontier Community College’s volleyball team and has the distinction of being “the winningest coach in Fairfield Community High School history – not just in volleyball, but across all sports,” was arrested earlier this month after two men came forward and claimed abuse. According to the Wayne County Press Window:
Snyder, 51 of Fairfield faces two Class-2 felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The first charge alleges he touched the “upper thigh and penis” of a victim under the age of 18 “for his own sexual gratification”. The second charge alleges the same offense, only the victim was not a juvenile.
Count three charges Snyder with unlawful restraint. Investigators allege Snyder drove one of the victims around Fairfield and would not allow him to get out of the vehicle. Count 4 alleges Snyder committed the offense of unlawful delivery of alcohol to a minor. He is accused of giving booze to one of the victims that was under the age of 21.
Snyder, who is married and has five children, including a pair of adopted boys, was released on bail with the condition that he wears an ankle monitor and has no contact with the alleged victims.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 9.
