New Life Church Search Committee Accused Of Concealing Sexual Abuse Of 12y/o Girl

Two weeks after Senior Pastor Brady Boyd resigned from New Life Church amid allegations he knew about sexual abuse committed by Robert Morris against 12-year-old Cindy Clemishire, two more elders who were aware of the incident were removed.
Boyd was dismissed after elders determined he lied about not knowing Morris abused Clemishire when she was a minor, breaching trust with the congregation.
Notably, when Boyd was an elder at Gateway Church and was being considered for the pastoral role at New Life, Clemishire’s sister, a New Life member, informed the search committee of Morris’s abuse. Despite knowing Morris was a child rapist, the committee concluded the conduct, though “terrible,” did not disqualify Boyd, as it occurred 25 years earlier and did not directly involve him. They recommended Boyd, and the congregation approved. Later, Morris became an overseer at New Life and preached there over the years.
In response to questions about who knew what and when, the church released an FAQ addressing the abuse allegations, sharing some of the following tidbits:
- The search committee consisted of nine individuals, including New Life pastors and congregants. Brian Newberg and Lance Coles are the only committee members who remain on staff at the church.
- Brady spoke about this on Sunday, June 8, 2025, he stated several times that he did not know, prior to 2024, Ms. Clemishire was 12 when Morris molested her. Shortly after his message, the Elders were presented with information from 2011 demonstrating that Brady was party to at least 20 emails relating to Ms. Clemishire’s abuse, that he interacted extensively with those emails, and that many of the emails stated in the subject line the allegation that Ms. Clemishire was 12 at the time. Brady failed to disclose this to the Board of Elders.
- Brady also said during his June 8 message that the search committee did not tell him in 2007 the details regarding Ms. Clemishire. However, meeting notes and email records confirmed that the search committee met with Brady specifically to discuss the accusations made by Ms. Clemishire’s sister and then dialogued with him for weeks about the issue.
The FAQ (which has been confirmed as authentic) explains that executive pastors Brian Newberg and Lance Coles, the only two members from the search committee on staff, have also been asked to resign.
Brian and Lance received the report from Cindy Clemishire’s sister when they served on the search committee in 2007. Brian and Lance raised concerns about Robert Morris becoming involved with New Life.
When Brady dismissed their concerns and appointed Robert Morris to be an overseer and began inviting Morris to preach, Brian and Lance had a responsibility to bring their concerns – and the reasons behind them – directly to the Board of Elders. They did not do so then or afterward, so we likewise requested that Brian and Lance resign. They have submitted their letters of resignation and will depart after a transition period.
They add:
Since we first approached Brian and Lance last week, their repentant, sorrowful, and humble attitudes have been strongly evident. They have submitted to the authority of the Elders and to the church, and it is with heavy hearts that we determined, together in conversation with them, they should resign.
They have both expressed how deeply they regret not doing more to prevent Robert Morris from becoming involved with our church. We believe they would never intentionally do anything harmful to New Life Church. They are devastated, and so are we.
Brian and Lance have asked for and received our forgiveness. They plan to do everything they can to ensure a smooth transition of immense institutional knowledge that together comprises more than 70 years of service to the church. We hope they will remain members for many years to come, and we know they would appreciate your prayers.
New Life insists that with the removal of Brian and Lance, there are no other pastors or Elders currently at New Life who were aware of the Clemishire information.
As far as Brady goes, New Life says they hope to reconcile with Brady, but presently is not repentant for his actions
At this time, Brady has not apologized nor is he repentant for what we think constituted lying to New Life Church, or for failing to disclose to the Elders whatever knowledge he had about Robert Morris before asking Morris to serve as overseer and to preach at our church
Along with the paper FAQ, audio of the meeting has been released.
Despite unshamedly lying to his congregation, not all churches feel he is disqualified. Along with being the former pastor of New Life Church, Brady is one of a handful of “apostolic elders” at Trinity Fellowship Church, where Senior Pastor Jimmy Witcher affirmed his continued position and apostolic eldership over them, despite being removed from New Life.
