Man Who Murdered and Crucified Arizona Pastor Had 13 Other Pastors On Hit List
“It’s a commandment to rid Israel of evil.”
A man accused of killing and crucifying 71-year-old Arizona pastor William Schonemann in his home earlier this month confessed to the crime in a chilling jailhouse interview.
Speaking to True Crime Arizona journalist Brian Whitney, Adam Sheafe admitted he planned to “execute” and crucify 14 pastors for teaching that Jesus was God, claiming it contradicted God’s word. Sheafe said he followed “the spirit” to select his targets, set up a tent near a church, and stalked Schonemann, a pastor he did not know. He confessed to screwing Schonemann to wall studs and placing a crafted crown of thorns on his head.
“I was going to start in Phoenix and end in Phoenix, and circle the nation. Ten cities, 14 pastors, 10 states…there’s 13 tribes of Israel, so what I wanted to do was execute and crucify 13 priests, and put one of the tribes of Israel in each of their right ears.
…God commaded us to execute anyone that’s preaching that someone other than him is God, because it’s that serious. They are claiming that Jesus is God and that somebody other than God is God.”
Sheafe said he chose which pastors to kill by “following the spirit.” He set up a tent near a church and stalked Schonemann, someone he didn’t know and had no prior contact with.
“I drove from (Phoenix) to Bill’s house, like two in the morning on a Sunday night, and I executed him, and then I crucified him by nailing him to the wall, screwing him to the wall. It’s fast. I didn’t want it to be bloody… or painful- I’m not trying to troture the guy, I just wanted to execute him quickly. So I put my hand over his mouth and told him to sit still, don’t move, and waited till he stopped breathing.”
Sheafe located the studs in the wall and screwed his hands in. Later, he crafted a crown of thorns and placed it on his head.
When it was pointed out that the state might kill him if convicted, Sheafe replied “I want the death penalty because I want to show that you can’t kill God’s son. The whole story is B.S.”
