Former DC Talk and Newsboys Frontman Michael Tait Accused of Sexually Assaulting Multiple Young Men

Former Newsboys frontman Michael Tait, who also was part of the legendary Christian band DC Talk, has been accused of sexual assault against several men going back to 2004, according to a recent story in The Roys Report.

Jessica Morris, a music journalist who interviewed 50 witnesses and spent two and a half years on the story, reveals a dark pattern of Tait befriending young, impressionable men on tour where he would ply them with alcohol and then put his hands on them.

Three men spoke to TRR, alleging that Tait befriended them individually on Christian music tours in 2004, 2010, and 2014. They were all 22 years old at the time.

Two men stated that they were drinking alcohol with Tait and later woke to him fondling their genitals. One alleged Tait also offered him cocaine while on the Newsboys tour bus. The third told TRR that Tait gave him a back massage while skinny dipping and later invited him to share his king-size bed. There, Tait allegedly non-consensually massaged his anal region.

Outlining ways that Tait would “love bomb” and manipulate young men who looked up to him and were in awe of his fame and charisma, Morris details one young man, “Steven,” who recounts an evening of excessive drinking where Tait accosted him

Steven said he woke up around 4 a.m.  to Tait “fondling my genitals, and then he was also kissing my mouth.”

Saying that he went into “freeze response” and that he “didn’t know what to do,” Steven tried to pull away multiple times to stop Tait’s behavior. It didn’t work.

“I started stirring, and he kept kissing me while touching my penis,” Steven said. “Eventually I just moved my head, and he stopped, and then he just kind of froze, too.”

More stories of Tait’s malfeasance can be found in the original reporting article, and many more stories about this are and the ensuing coverup are yet to come out.

We reached out to Tait and the Newsboys back in February and in May about the story, when we first learned of it, but received no comment.

  1. ah, yes…the Roys report. That Judas rag that loves to throw stones at those who live in glass houses.
If Michael Tate did these things, then he should be publicly honest and truly repent.
However, given Roys’ propensity for pushing the boundaries of truth when it comes to public Christians, I will have my doubts about this until more reliable sources have discussed it.
Regardless, for Protestia to rely on the Roys Report for the entire truth is like building a house on sand.

    2. I disagree. There are a lot of witnesses in this article, not only those violated but also loved ones of those violated. I’m not sure how much more evidence one can get without a video of Tait doing these things. In fact, this is much better substantiated than other me-too type allegations relatively recently, like the Justice Kavanaugh allegations (which were pretty flimsy). Also, it’s not clear that the purported victims have anything to gain by coming forward.

      1. The article may be accurate, but JR herself has essentially lost all credibility, especially with her embracing of Woke-ism (spirit of the age), to whatever degree.

  2. You know that passage where Paul says “IT IS A SHAME TO EVEN SPEAK OF THE THINGS DONE BY THEM IN SECRET.” Yeah, he was right.

    1. In other words, we probably don’t need all the explicit details of how perverted this guy is. A blow by blow not entirely necessary for the general audience.

      1. @TitusRomanus – Yeah, I squirmed when reading it. I can’t even imagine how terrible such a situation would be. How awful.
