Mel Gibson Shares New Details of Upcoming ‘Resurrection of Christ’ Film: ‘You have to start with the fall of the angels in the firmament’
Director Mel Gibson has shared some new details about his upcoming ‘The Resurrection of Christ’ film, revealing that it took him nearly a decade to write the script because “it’s a very complex and almost impossible to understand subject.” He likewise notes that the movie seeks to answer the question of why Jesus would die for mankind, on account of “We’re just a bunch of f***ed up things.”
Gibson recently announced that the long-delayed production will start filming in 2026 as part of a partnership agreement with Lionsgate, which has worldwide distribution rights. Speaking about the film at a panel at Fan Expo Philadelphia, Gibson reveals
It took me about eight years to write the script for the sequel, if we can call that The Resurrection of Christ, because it’s a very complex and almost impossible to understand subject, so that necessarily you have to underpin it with a great deal of all of salvation history and theology.
It was a very difficult thing to find and synthesize, because you have to understand, firstly, why it matters… You have to think, why is mankind so important in this process? Why are the big realms of good and evil slugging it up for the hearts and minds and souls of mankind? Why us? We’re just a bunch of f***ed up things. We’re imperfect.
You have to ask yourself, why are we important? Why are we making the sandwich? That whole huge story. And I think in order to understand that, you have to, you have to start with the fall of the angels in the firmament, before right at the beginning, is pretty crazy idea, what did that look like? I know what it looks like. It’s not one film, it’s two films, because it’s massive.
Released in 2004 by Director Mel Gibson, the original film grossed 600M worldwide on a $30M budget. It received a mixed response within the Christian community, with many praising it and even using it as an outreach tool, and others attending showings to hand out tracts against it, railing against it for it’s explicit Roman Catholic theology, the inclusion of that weird little demon baby, and the fact that it breaks the second commandment. The sequel has been in production hell for the last decade, and now finally seems ready to release.
While the first film covered the 12 hours leading up to his death, the sequel. which will bring back stars Jim Caviezel as Hesus and Maia Morgenstern as Mary, is expected to cover the days after his death, intercut with scenes from Jesus in Hell and the fall of Lucifer. Gibson previously noted:
It is such a massive undertaking that you can’t do it lightly and you can’t do it quickly. You have to really consider what it is that you need to show in order to be poignant. It can’t be linear; you have to have many things to juxtapose against one another even from different time periods in order to illustrate what something means in a more full way. And I think it’s going to be a real jigsaw puzzle to do.
And I have two scripts right, and one of them is very structured and a very strong script and kind of more what you’d expect. And the other is like an acid trip and because you’re going into other realms and stuff. I mean you’re in hell.. It’s like, you know, you’re watching the angels fall..”
Gibson also told Joe Rogan on his recent podcast appearance that the film would conclude with the death of the last apostle.
[The script is] an acid trip. I’ve never read anything like it. There’s some crazy stuff. In order to tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels. You’re in another realm. You need to go Hell. You need to go to Sheol.
You got to have [Satan]s] origin. I have ideas about how to do that and how to evoke things about to depict that. I’ve been thinking about that for a long time. It’s going to require a lot of planning. I’m not sure I can pull it off. It’s super ambitious, but I’m going to take a crack at it … It’s about trying to find a way in that’s not cheesy or obvious. It’s almost like a magic trick. [The story] goes from the fall of the angels to the death of the last apostle.

Gibson did a masterful job in The Passion, and hopefully this will be even half as good. The man is a creative genius, but is not a theologian and he’s a real fan of violence. We should all pray for those involved in this work so that it will glorify God by being faithful to the New Testament. It could be a true game-changer in these last days.
Both Gibson and Caviezel are Roman Catholics – Caviezel believes that he has to pray through the idol mary to get to Jesus, and the fruit of the Spirit appears to be absent from Gibson’s life. The Passion movie was excellent, and this one should be, as well. But entertainment for itching ears springs from bad theology.
These men are to be evangelized as if they are unbelievers.
Mary is not an idol. She is the vessel through whom God sent us the Savior. She’s the Daughter of God, preserved from sin to be the Tabernacle of the Lord, the Spouse of God, because the Holy Spirit conceived within her, and the Mother of God, who bore and raised and taught and nurtured the Lord Jesus. Jesus Christ loves His mother. You should too.
Mary was not sinless, and she herself would say the same. And you don’t need her to be sinless in order to give birth to the Messiah – sin is passed down by the father. “As children of Adam, we are all born in sin.” But the father of Christ is God – sinless. Mary’s father was a mortal man. She was born sinful just like the rest of humanity, and required Jesus Christ, Messiah, to rescue her from her sin, just like the rest of humanity. We can love the true Mary, mother of Jesus, because Jesus did too – but we are NOT to worship her, or pray to her, or venerate her, or treat her as anything other than a fellow human and sister in Christ. Jesus did not worship, pray to, or venerate His mother – this is a ruse by the entity you call the “Queen of Heaven” to deceive billions of Catholics into the sin of idol worship and necromancy.

We are not to worship her, true. And Jesus did not pray to or venerate her, of course, because He was the Lord and she was just His mother, right there in the same rooms. Mary was living out God’s plan for her as you’re living out yours. She did indeed need a savior. However, she was “saved” completely from sin so that she never committed even the slightest transgression. Scripture indicates that salvation can also refer to man being protected from sinning before the fact (Jude 24-25). And this was no ordinary greeting: “And [the angel Gabriel] came to [Mary] and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God” (Luke 1:28-30). And just as the Old Covenant ark was pristine from the moment it was constructed, with explicit divine instructions, in Exodus 25, so would Mary be pure from the moment of her conception. God, in a sense, prepared his own dwelling place in both the Old and New Testaments. I encourage you to read about Fatima in 1917. It is a joy!

I totally agree. I am an ex Catholic who is now born again. Read the Magnificat – Luke 1:46-55.
In verse 47 she explicitly says: “…and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior”.
Notice she does not say “a Savior, or the Savior”, but “my Savior”. She understands that she is a sinner who needs the Savior. Therefore, by her own prayer she acknowledges her sinful nature.
Ask any Catholic to read the Magnificat aloud, then ask the question: “why does she use
the words: “My Savior”?
Pray to God, with Jesus Christ as His advocate; not Mary.

AFAIK, Catholicism has restructured the 10 Commandments, converting “do not covet thy neighbor’s wife, ox, … or anything of thy neighbors” into 2 commandments and completely removed the 2nd Commandment: “no graven images / idols” because their entire religious system rests on idol worship. When we speak with the real Mary, mother of Jesus when we enter Paradise, I am certain she will not claim deity, nor will she claim to be perfect or sinless. I am sure she would reject all the deification of her image and consider herself a fellow follower of Yeshua Messiah. It is interesting to note that the entity worshipped as “Mary” has another name given by the Catholics who worship her: “Queen of Heaven.” The Queen of Heaven has been known through the ages by her other names in polytheistic pantheons: Isis, Roma, etc. etc. She is NOT the Mary, mother of Jesus, but a principality over the south-eastern region of the Middle-east / south-eastern Europe / north-eastern Africa. She is powerful and has a huge territory as her domain, but she is NOT aligned with Christ Redeemer of Mankind. Jeremiah chapter 44 starting at verse 17 talks about the ‘queen of heaven’ as an idol the Jews burned incense and poured out drink offerings to. This is the title Roman Catholics erroneously attribute to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in blending Christianity with paganism. The Jews’ perverse thinking credits the idol with the prosperity of precaptivity of Judah, mocking the goodness of God.

Gibson is so full of hate and he puts on like he is religious. WHAT? Remember when he made hate comments about Jewish People and Blacks? Look what drinking did to him, he is all wrinkled up now.
Family. God’s own Family. After the fall we needed a way back. The way back to what… Purity. Many if not most people do not seek after it-(Him) and therefore will not attain what He has made ‘possible. Many will have received Christ into their hearts because Yahweh, who alone knows the end from the beginning will allow them to approach Yeshua, who will impart the Ruach unto them, who will lead them into all truth. Salvation is Yahweh’s desire for man, a masterpiece of honor in His creation, He will save many. Fewer will attain ‘Sonship, these will be heirs with Yeshua and both enter and inherit the kingdom of God. These are wonderful things to have opportunity to achieve. What Mel wants to tell I have come to know already by much study and searching. I hope many more will both ‘enter and ‘inherit the reign of Yahweh!
