Baptist Pastor Argues Pre-Marital Sex is GOOD and is NOT A SIN in Sunday Sermon

Mt. Ennon Baptist Church is a 9000-member megachurch in Clinton, MD, that is associated with the National Baptist Convention USA and is led by senior “pastor” Delman Coates. According to their website, their vision is to be a “Caring, Christ-centered, Community Church, with a Kingdom Agenda.”

One of their core beliefs is the importance of “Biblical Preaching and Teaching” , because “The Word of God is the final authority; it is true; it is unchangeable; it is to be used to equip the saints to achieve our mission.”

At the same time, however, along with other beliefs centering around “prayer,” “worship,” and “unity,” they say that they value “innovation” and that “We believe that God’s vision is progressive and as such we believe that the ministry of the church should bed progressive, embracing Godly innovation to keep us on the cutting edge of what God is doing in the Body of Christ.”

In a recent sermon titled Don’t Die Like Weezy: Let’s Talk About Sex‘, Coates attacks the notion that the bible prohibits pre-marital sex and that Christians should not engage in it, insisting that all verses to the contrary are a mistranslation.

Instead, he argues that the scripture celebrates it and that no one should feel shame or guilt about having sex with whoever they want, so long as it is safe and consensual.

“The living Bible translation that says this, another problematic translation, ‘but sexual sin is never right.’
These translations give unlearned readers the impression that the text is saying that sex before or outside of marriage is wrong. But the Bible is not saying that. It is critiquing prostitution, the immoral and unjust sexual and economic exploitation of poor people, slaves, women and young males who are oftentimes forced into prostitution in the first century.

Have I lost you all still with me today? Every time the word ‘pornea’ translated fornication is used in the New Testament, it is talking about prostitution.

It is not talking about or condemning consensual sexual relations. I told y’all, this the first time you have ever heard this preached in a church. Therefore, teaching Christians that sex before outside of marriage is a sin, may be tradition, it may be something that’s been passed down from generation to generation, it may be something that you learned from an esteemed Bible preacher or teacher, but it is not something supported by the Word of God.

There is no biblical basis for that teaching. I know this comes as a shock to many of you. It may sound sacrilegious to others, but I am obligated as a preacher of the Word of God to preach the truth of the Bible and not to further myth, superstitions, and lies. Jesus said, ‘and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.’

So all of these Christian podcasts and Christian social media confluencers and charismatic preachers telling people that having sex before or outside of marriage based upon the word of God, they are wrong. They may be sincere, but you can be sincerely wrong. The Bible does not make celibacy a sign of your holiness. There is no biblical basis for all of these ministries spreading purity culture that abstinence.”

  1. The image is kind of small but I think he’s black. So just another example of the need for the upcoming debate debtween James White and Corey Mahler on whether blacks can be sanctified or not, mark you calendars for the 15th, that’s 2 days from now.

    1. So you hate Jews AND people who are black?! Yikes! Your black hatred is like the Mormons back before they got a “revelation” that blacks could hold the priesthood.

So how much black skin, or the lack of white skin, disqualifies a person from being sanctified?

Where, exactly, do you get this percentage?

Where, exactly, is this found in Scripture?

      2. I’m just noticing 99% of the heretical pastors highlighted recently have been black. I wonder what light the James White vs Corey Mahler debate can shed on this fact.

        1. No, you said … “on whether blacks can be sanctified or not.” That is horrific. Not to mention, your demonstrated disdain for and attacks on Jews.

          1. That’s the title of the debate between James White and Corey Mahler. They chose that topic, not me.

          2. And their debate on the topic THEY CHOSE of “black sanctification” is tomorrow. Make sure not to miss it, M!

  2. Matt. 19:9, 1 Cor. 5, etc. … “porneia” refers to any and all sexual immorality, not just prostitution. As does “pornos”, meaning those who engage in “porneia”, and so on. It is associated with “aselgeia”, the sin of sensuality/licentiousness, in passages such as Mark 7:21-22. Etc.,etc.

It takes about 2 seconds to go to Biblehub, find these words with the list of scriptures in which they are used, and plainly see, in context, that porneia refers to any and all sexual immorality.

And it doesn’t take an extreme amount of intelligence. For example, if his claim of the definition of “porneia”, were correct, then by Matt. 19:9, it wouldn’t be adultery deserving of divorce if if were consensual. By Coates’ reasoning, divorce wouldn’t be justified if the adulterous wife consented, but would be justified if she were raped. How’s that supposed to make any sense? Consequences for something she couldn’t control, and no consequences for something she could? That is directly opposite God’s law concerning rape, in Duet. 22, which clearly establishes that a woman is guilty if it can be proved consensual, and not guilty otherwise. By extension, Coate’s claims are directly opposite of all of God’s moral law. So is God contradicting Himself?

No, Coates is intentionally lying …
