‘The King of Kings’ Makes $19M at The Box Office, Breaks 27-Year Record
Angel Studio’s animated faith-based flick ‘The Kings of Kings’ made bank at the box office this weekend, earning $19.05$ and setting a record for the highest-grossing debut of an animated faith-based film.
Written and directed by Seong-ho Jang and featuring the voices of Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley, and Oscar Isaac, the film “follows Charles Dickens, a young author who narrates the biography of Jesus Christ. Together, he and (sin son) Walter Dickens embark on an adventure as the master storyteller engages his youngest son’s vivid imagination.”
The King of Kings has also managed to nab a rare A+ Cinema score and 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (vs 63% fresh with critics). Angel Studios Global Head of Theatrical Distribution & Brand Development, Brandon Purdie, said in a statement:

The second largest opening for any faith-based animated film of all time is now 1998’s The Prince of Egypt, which grossed $14.5M at the box office on it’s opening weekend, which is $26M adjusted in 2025.
‘The Chosen’ also chugged along at the box office, with Parts 2 and 3 remaining in the Top 10 and earning a combined $6.7M, bringing the combined box office totals of the entire season 5 to $35.9M and ensuring season 6 will almost certainly follow a similar strategy and debut in theaters next year before heading to streaming.
