Notorious ‘Cussing Pastor’ Who Once Held ‘Twerking Contest’ at Church, Passes Away at 67
Thaddeus Matthews, the hireling known as the “The Cussing Pastor,” has passed away.
The leader of Naked Truth Liberation and Empowerment Ministries in Memphis, TN, and the author of the book The Cussing Pastor: Bullsh*t from the Pulpit, Matthews gained widespread attention by blending profanity with preaching, where he would routinely drop f-bombs and then passionately defend his filthy mouth. When once pressed by one of his listeners about his language, he responded:
Well, b***, let me tell you something. You must be a b*** like (sure?). Yes, I cuss. I’m the cussing pastor, while your motherf****** pastor ain’t doing a godd*** thing. I’m the cussing pastor that used my platform to raise $6,000 for this mother who was going through a plight while these other ignorant a**, non-functioning a** pastors wasn’t doing a motherf***** thing in this city.

Likewise, in 2019, he held a twerking contest at church, and attacked critics of the event:
“This message is for all you hypoChristians who live hypocritical and f***ed up lives when you have the nerve to judge someone else. I look at many of you who have criticized the young ladies who were dancing in my gymnasium in my church. I look on your pages, you got your a**, your titties out. You got all type of trash in your life but you want to be the one to judge? f*** you.”
You motherf***ers who are out here judging, there is nothing in the Bible about dancing but it is judging. Again, f*** you.”
Matthews was also arrested multiple times throughout his life, including notably getting probation in 2015 for posting child porn on his Facebook page. According to the Commercial Appeal, at the time of his sentencing, “Prosecutor Katie Ratton argued hard against probation for Matthews, pointing out that his criminal record contains 14 separate guilty pleas for both felonies and misdemeanors over the past 30 years. That doesn’t include several other charges, including stalking and domestic violence, that were eventually dropped.”
He was also arrested and charged with harassment in 2016 and again in 2022, where he was charged with harassing his ex-girlfriend through YouTube videos and social media- an ex-girlfriend he acquired while married.
His wife shared news of his death on Facebook:
Matthews hosted a talk show and had a strong social media presence, with tens of thousands of followers across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. He authored a book titled The Cussing Pastor: Bullsht From The Pulpit*, reflecting his raw, unfiltered approach.
His life wasn’t without controversy—he faced legal issues, including a 2016 arrest for harassment after allegedly posting nude photos of himself online, and a 2022 arrest for violating a restraining order by harassing an ex-girlfriend via social media. Matthews passed away on February 24, 2025, at age 67, as announced by his wife, Melanie, leaving behind a polarizing legacy as a figure who spoke his mind, often at the expense of convention.
