Biden Awards Pope Francis Presidential Medal of Freedom With Distinction
As one of his last remaining acts in office, PresidentJoe Biden has named Pope Francis as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction, according to a press release published by the White House on Saturday,
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is “the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.”
The Vatican News notes:
The announcement was made during a telephone call between the two leaders on January 11 The meeting, initially scheduled as an in-person audience at the Vatican on January 10, was cancelled due to the wildfire emergency in Los Angeles, which prevented Biden from traveling to Italy.
The phone call marked the second dialogue between Biden and Pope Francis, following a prior exchange on December 20. That earlier conversation focused on human rights, particularly the Pope’s concerns about federal death row inmates. Subsequently, Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 individuals, demonstrating a shared commitment to justice and compassion.
In both conversations, Biden expressed gratitude for the Pope’s unwavering efforts to alleviate global suffering, promote human rights, and protect religious freedoms. These are among the reasons cited for awarding the Medal of Freedom.
While Biden Biden has previously awarded the medal to nearly 60 people, including former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg, Phil Donahue, Al Gore, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Simone Biles, Megan Rapinoe, Hillary Clinton, Bill Bye, George Soros, and Denzel Washington, this is the first time it was awarded with ‘Distinction.’
Francis’ official citation reads:
As a young man, Jorge Bergoglio sought a career in science before faith led him to a life with the Jesuits. For decades, he served the voiceless and vulnerable across Argentina. As Pope Francis, his mission of serving the poor has never ceased. A loving pastor, he joyfully answers children’s questions about God. A challenging teacher, he commands us to fight for peace and protect the planet. A welcoming leader, he reaches out to different faiths. The first pope from the Southern Hemisphere, Pope Francis is unlike any who came before. Above all, he is the People’s Pope – a light of faith, hope, and love that shines brightly across the world.
Despite the reasons given, Francis’ reception of the medal is doubtlessly due to him being a flaming liberal with Marxist ideologies, having a progressive pedigree that would make most United Methodist pastors blush as he condemns capitalism, promotes universal basic income, supports radical environmental policies, and weakens the church’s stance on biblical marriage.
Notably, despite being staunchly pro-choice, doing all he can to entrench baby-butchery into the fabric and social norms of society, Francis and the Vatican have repeatedly reinforced Biden’s Roman Catholic faith, refusing to deny him communion and saying of his pro-choice stance, “I leave it to his conscience.”
Gotta pay back those who have been marching us towards a one world government and lying to everyone around the world.
