Intel CEO Criticized for Posting Bible Verse After Announcing 15,000 Layoffs

The CEO of Intel, the multinational semiconductor chip manufacturer that sells computer components for consumers and businesses, is under fire for posting a bible verse to his Twitter page shortly after announcing thousands of layoffs, following an earnings call that saw 1.6B in losses over the last quarter. According to The Verge

Intel’s on a long, long road to recovery, and over 15,000 workers will no longer be coming along for the ride. The chipmaker just announced it’s downsizing its workforce by over 15 percent as part of a new $10 billion cost savings plan for 2025, which will mean a headcount reduction of greater than 15,000 roles.

In a message to employees, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger shared “This is painful news for me to share. I know it will be even more difficult for you to read. This is an incredibly hard day for Intel as we are making some of the most consequential changes in our company’s history.”

A few days layer Gelsinger posted a bible verse to X, quoting Proverbs 4:25-26 “Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways,” which was instantly riffed on.

However, the posted bible verse isn’t unusual for Gelsinger, nor was it posted in isolation. The Intel CEO is an outspoken Christian, sharing that designation in his X bio, and regularly posts bible verses on his X account.
