Predator Pastor Robert Morris Permanently Resigns From 100,000-member Church After Child Sex Abuse Revelations
Robert Morris, the senior impastor of Gateway Church, the largest church in America, has permanently resigned in shame and scandal after revelations emerged that he molested a child for years and then covered it up for decades.
When initially confronted about it, the elders of Gateway Church released a statement to staffers saying that Morris had a “moral failure” 35 years ago and was “involved in an inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady” that involved “kissing and petting and not intercourse.” They insisted however that he underwent a “lengthy restoration process” and has since walked in purity, and therefore was was not disqualified from ministry.
That was all a lie, of course.
Following the revelation that the “young lady” was a 12-year-old child that he molested for over four years, the church changed their tune, telling Christian Post in a statement:
Today, June 18, the Board of Elders of Gateway Church accepted the resignation of Robert Morris, the senior pastor. In addition, the Board has retained the law firm of Haynes & Boone, LLP, to conduct an independent, thorough, and professional review of the report of past abuse to ensure we have a complete understanding of the events from 1982-1987.
Regretfully, prior to Friday, June 14, the elders did not have all the facts of the inappropriate relationship between Morris and the victim, including her age at the time and the length of the abuse. The elders’ prior understanding was that Morris’s extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry, was with ‘a young lady’ and not abuse of a 12-year-old child.
Even though it occurred many years before Gateway was established, as leaders of the church, we regret that we did not have the information that we now have. We are heartbroken and appalled by what has come to light over the past few days, and we express our deep sympathy to the victim and her family.
For the sake of the victim, we are thankful this situation has been exposed. We know many have been affected by this, we understand that you are hurting, and we are very sorry. It is our prayer that, in time, healing for all those affected can occur.”

Of course the left is trying to tie Morris to Trump. Morris was on Trump’s evangelical advisory board in 2016. In other words, Morris was part of the group of evangelicals that Trump’s team met with to better understand their wants/needs and align with how a President Trump could support them. Morris was NOT Trump’s personal spiritual advisor. But the left will have the story by Friday showing Morris baptizing all Trump’s children and officiating Trump’s marriage to Melania.

So you’re defending this pastor? That’s the problem with the church today. There is no fear or reverence of God. The church for the most part, is apostate.
Molesting a child for years then covering his tracks is the sign of a reprobate mind. He is Biblically disqualified from heading anything much less a church. “Oh its all in the past,” -liar! This is something that permanently removes him from contact with girls/women from an authority position. This would be true in the world as a teacher or coach. Are we less vigilant than the unbelievers? Is the church something that condemns sin or not?
The church should be the example of an institution trying to be morally correct that actually disciplines wrong acts versus covering it up and offering absolution. We’re supposed to be a hospital that restores the wounded and then shows this through changed lives, not a haven for the same sins we proclaim as wrong.
The “we’re all sinners so we should forgive” excuse is why unbelievers see us as delusional hypocrites. We know we are sinners and will continue to do so in this life, but criminality is not only sin, but a punishable crime. If your sin is the central theme of your life- porn, adultery, stealing, addictions- then family of God isn’t your identity. Is this person really saved? Better check yourself if you are choosing your lust pattern to rule your life not JC. The fact a survey of pastors showed most were involved in porn shows how we talk about sexual sin, but don’t take it too seriously. Thus the homosexual marriage and trans in the church movement is inclusive not heresy.
As far as “cast the first stone,” lying to an employer about being ill isn’t as impactful as destroying a young woman’s sense of safety and future sexuality for years. If this SOB did this to her, she’s not the only one. That behavior is too well practiced and experienced with silencing the victim. He enjoyed it too much to quit as he did it for years. He’s done it to others, who may or may not come forward, guaranteed.
So the church no longer offers the same forgiveness that God does? I seem to remember a murderer named Paul that Jesus specifically chose as a major apostle. And another named Moses that God chose to save His Chosen People, though he also committed murder and exiled himself to another country until God sought him for a mission. There are many in the Word who after becoming born again and even before who committed heinous sins, and were still used in God’s missions. I don’t know this pastor, but how much good has he done? How many souls did he bring to the Lord? God’s forgiveness is permanent. Apparently human forgiveness is not. If we consider others, and our own past sins, as qualification for ministry we will run out of people to carry out God’s missions. This smacks of Roman Catholicism rush to judgement, and keeping a list of wrongs.
Never, EVER confuse forgiveness with being qualified or disqualified. And never, ever confuse forgiveness with reconciliation, or with trust. Those are common errors (especially the latter), and they all lead to various forms of abuse, dysfunction, and particularly to enabling evil, like keeping people like RM (and others, like Driscol, etc) in positions of power.
Do you have a 12 year old daughter Bob? If I molest her for years, do you just forgive it with no consequences? You misunderstand and twist the Scriptures. You should be excommunicated for your ridiculous stance on this, if you are in fact a Christian and church member. PLUS, Robert Morris a prosperity gospel heretic. How much good has he done – ZERO – he is a heretic.
Forgiveness requires a change of heart and also making amends. June Hunt refers to it as reconciliation- don’t confuse terms. He’s done neither. Also requires accepting all consequences, that means prison. The wife being complicit is the pickle on top of the sin sandwich. Go listen to the interview of former Morris’ co-worker on Justin Peters’ channel. Morris is a “master communicator who could convince most people of anything,” Sounds more serpent than dove. There were other misdeeds by him and associates. One single male employee of his group seduced women, married and single, at the CHURCH. Do you really want to forgive that defilement?
FYI -Not RC, but here’s my question: If said pastor preferred sodomizing 3-6yo boys, would you brush that off too or become offended by the homosexuality angle? Just curious where committing crimes finally gets you to take action. This is why unbelievers point to us as hypocrites and weak. We have to be an example of truly holding people accountable.
If my understanding and reading about this event years ago is correct, Pastor Roberts, the girl, and her parents came to terms with this nearly 40 years ago. Pastor Roberts freely admitted it to his church at that time and sincerely asked for forgiveness. All parties involved agreed to the forgiveness and his apology.
Apparently, some reporter recently uncovered this information and, for some reason, the girl in question agreed to pursue it once again. Her motivation? One can speculate. Certainly financial gain has nothing to do with it.
However, taking into account all of the above, is no one entitled to redemption anymore? Apparently not. So all of the people casting judgment on him now, be careful of the field where you are treading.

When it comes to pastors and church leaders, there are several significant qualifications, by which a person is qualified, not qualified, or disqualified. This is nothing new. If this story is accurate — and if he is guilty of predatory behavior, and of sexually abusing a child (which does not seem to be in doubt, or disputed), and if he (and others covered it up, which seems to be the case) — then in what church is that not far, FAR beyond disqualified? What is more, this goes far beyond a sin, and even adultery (by which up to 90+% of churches disqualify a pastor/leader). It is a deeply disturbing and heinous crime, one against minor.
To frame this evil and egregious sin and crime — which was also covered up by and from church leaders — as a matter of “redemption” or “forgiveness” is, by itself, disturbing.
We all know what the bible says about those who hurt little ones.
Every single for-profit Mega Church leader needs to be investigated and prosecuted like our government has investigated and prosecuted parents who speak up at city schools board meetings , and the many street preachers who have been targeted for praying near abortion clinics.

I started to write a letter years ago to my family which turned into a website. Money has no value there, no trips to Alaska, no books to purchase, no – none of that.
