Pastor Gets Gun Pointed At His Head in Wild, Wild Sermon Illustration

Pastor K. Francis Smith is the “visionary leader” of Excel Church, a 2000-member church in Conyers, Georgia. During a recent sermon, Smith, keen on teaching some bad theology and butchering the scriptures, staged a stick-em-up in front of the congregants.

Smith suggested when people don’t tithe, they are robbing God, and therefore God cannot do anything you in your life- that much like a thief might bind someone’s hands to render them disabled, the people’s lack of giving likewise ties God’s hands, and it is only through tithing that God can work in your life.

Whenever you do not tithe, it’s like you are robbing your father. Can you imagine yourself robbing your father?

You rob God who gave you life. Who provided for you. Gave you opportunities. And you tie his hand so that he can’t do anything that he desires to do for you.

“Son, I had a plan for your life. Son. I’ve provided for you. I had a plan. Why would you rob me? Of all the people (you) could have robbed, why would you rob your father?”

And you tie the very hands of God and now God’s hands are tied. You got what you think you wanted, but what good is it without your father? What good is it without the one who designed you and created you.

When you put back into God’s hand (what) was God’s, then you untie the hands of God.

  1. Churches sure do love tithing, even though many pastors and elders are smart enough to know it is not commanded now. They count on their congregants being ignorant of what tithing actually was and its purpose during Old Testament times.

  2. We are commanded to give free will offerings.

And to say our actions can stymie God reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of the character and nature of God.

And I will merely note his total failure of basic gun control. He likely doesn’t own a gun and has graduated from the Alec Baldwin ‘Proper use of guns while on set’ school of firearms safety
