Christian Filmmaker Announce New ‘Cessationist’ Movie Ft. Phil Johnson, Justin Peters

Broken Stone Studio has announced a new film set to be released in the summer of 2023 called ‘Cessationist’ which will serve to be an indictment of the abuse of charismatic gifts and continuations, over and against the closing of the canon of scripture, asking whether or not the apostolic sign gifts are still in operation today. According to the promo material:

On any given week, countless Christians gather and participate in strange practices they believe are true expressions of the power of God. From speaking in tongues to attempting to raise the dead, Charismatic Christians believe they are participating in modern miracles.  But are these miracles real? Are the Apostolic sign gifts in operation today? Cessationist will lovingly and carefully answer this important question by exposing the errors and building a positive case for the real work of the Holy Spirit today. The real gift of the Spirit is far more necessary and powerful than many imagine.

The film will feature Conrad Mbewe, Joel Beeke, Phil Johnson, Justin Peters, Gabriel Hughes, Kofi Abu-Boahen, and Josh Buice, among others.

Newly created on Kickstarter, the film is seeking to raise $100,000 in order to be funded. It has raised a little over 10% and has 28 days left to go.

Broken Stones Studio is the broadcasting & media production company of Les Lanphere. He is perhaps best known as the host of the Reformed Pubcast and has previously released two well-received films, Calvinist and Spirit & Truth, a Film about Worship. Both also launched on Kickstarter and were fully funded.

  1. Truly it’s true God says nothing and does nothing. Plus all that stuff about gifting in the Bible is bunk because some nerd says so

    1. I’ve made so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. (hhr25) It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I do.

    1. Yes, if your faith rests upon counterfeit workings of the Spirit. Such faith ought to be destroyed. If one is trusting in his own goodness, that faith too needs to be destroyed; it is their only hope.

    2. Faith in what? Scripture is not sufficient for you?
“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son” ( Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV ). It’s no accident that the word “spoken” is in the past tense. God has conclusively spoken to His people through the testimony of His Son recorded on the pages of Scripture. What the Old Testament prophets looked forward to with longing, we can look back upon with certainty.

The power of the Holy Spirit is is alive in me and that is why I can discern that you are a 2Tim 4:3 type of “christian”. Faith is “dead” to you unless you are entertained with signs and wonders!
      John 4:
48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”

I am not fooled by false prophets but you are ! REPENT of your false faith and dig in to scripture! You must be born again to inherit the kingdom of God. I sincerely do pray that you will because I do not desire that you hear “depart from me ,I never knew you”.
      Matthew 24:24
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.

  2. One of the primary commands of the new testament is to be “filled” with the Holy Spirit. This movie will serve to show the complete spiritual deadness of the “Reformed Movement” and seemingly want to “deny the power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. Are there abuses of the gifts? Yes, however that is why we are told to “try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world”. If we are to look out for false prophets, then we would presume there are true prophets. In any event it is just as dangerous to deny the power or gifts of the Holy Spirit as to abuse them. I hope your movie fails.

    1. The Spirit stopped working 2000 years ago. You are deceived by Satan and strange fire. Go read John MacArthur!

    2. “If we are to look out for false prophets, then we would presume there are true prophets. ”
You going to hang your hat on that statement? LOL
      You conveniently omit this:

  3. Folks, the subject of the film is the SIGN gifts. Not all gifts.

For crying out loud, the tagline of this website is “because discernment is a gift of the spirit”

    Quit overreacting.
