Nominees: The Worst Christian of 2020
Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2020? Using a number of criteria Pulpit & Pen has identified a list of nominees from a pool of eligible individuals (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox* were not included for consideration). In 2019, JD Greear claimed the title of Pulpit & Pen’s “Worst Christian” of the year, beating out Danny Akin, Beth Moore, Jeff Durbin, James MacDonald, and John David Edie. This year, Greear is once again among the nominees, along with some new faces.
Who is the worst Christian of 2020? The Nominees are as follows:
Jimmy Scroggins, Pastor of Family Church and former Lifeway Board Chair
Nominated for: Self-dealing at LifeWay, overseeing sweetheart deal for Thom Rainer
Kevin Ezell, President of the North American Mission Board
Nominated for: Promoting woke church planters, legal troubles, strong-arming state conventions
Albert Mohler, President of the Southern Baptist Convention
Nominated for: Firing dissenting professors, promoting woke professors, public duplicitousness
Ravi Zacharias, Deceased Founder of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries
Nominated for: Sexually abusing massage therapists at an Ayurveda Spa he co-founded.
JD Greer, Pastor of Summit Church and President of the SBC
Nominated for: Cancelling corporate worship for 2020, race-baiting, general wokeism.
Tim Keller, Author and Founding Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church
Nominated for: General wokeism, bad tweets, Promoting Democrat Voting
*Paedobaptists are not excluded from consideration, although the practice of baptizing infants is not biblical.
