Church Stages Mock Crucifixion On Good Friday

Sam Jones Methodist Church in Cartersville, Georgia, is named after Samuel Porter Jones, a nationally known Methodist revivalist stationed in Cartersville.

Now led by Rev. Lathem Postell, the church stages an annual reenactment in front of their church of the crucifixion of Jesus by Roman soldiers, where townspeople can observe bloody men hanging from the cross for all to see.

While the reenactment occurs, staff are on hand to pray with visitors and curious passersbys, answering questions about the significance of what they’re seeing. (Photos taken from 2024 and 2023)
