Christian Dance Academy Disqualified After Performing Routine Criticizing ‘Gender Identity’

Christian Dance group ‘Praise Academy of Dance Barbados’ has been disqualified from a national competition after performing a routine critical of woke gender identity ideology.

The troupe’s piece, Speak Life, takes place inside a school science lesson and shows a 15-year-old girl struggling with her gender and sexual orientation. Then, the girl reads the bible and realizes that it’s not a choice she gets to choose, and finds peace in her identity as a female. This occurs while banners in the background read “Genesis 5:2: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” and as performers say in unison

I have the right to be taught a solid education; mathematics, english, history, science not genderfluidity. I have the right to expression of thought. So I say gender is not the clothes I wear or the activities I engage in. Those aren’t gender- those are gender expressions and gender roles. So I say there are only two genders. Determine our conception; male and female, man and woman, boy and girl, and XY and XX. It’s not a choice, you don’t get to pick, that’s the science

Yep. That would do it.

The National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) disqualified the group. It was aghast at the performance, saying that it made ‘defamatory claims’ and ‘exceeded the bounds of good taste’ because it “denounced various gender identities of the LGBTQ community via raging characterizations and expressions.”

As a result of the disqualification, the academy is considering legal action. Attorney Davida Maynard-Holligan, who is representing Praise Academy of Dance Barbados, said that the ruling sent “a chilling message to Christians on the island, especially young students, who do not believe in and refuse to conform to confusing and harmful gender identity ideology and extreme teaching.”

The disqualification by NCF/NIFCA of this piece on the grounds of discrimination therefore amounts to a ban of the expression of the Christian faith. The show was performed on a government owned, tax funded stage and marks one of the first known instances of the Christian faith being oppressed in Barbados in public.”

“The decision to disqualify and the ruling issued discriminates against Christian beliefs on these issues and if left unchallenged, has serious ramifications for freedom of religion and expression in Barbados and across the Caribbean.”
