Saddleback Church Pastors Dress up as Cartoon Characters for Toy Story 4 Sermon Series
Andy and Stacie Wood are the new ‘pastors’ of the 25,000-member, 14-campus Saddleback Church, taking it over from Rick Warren a few years back. The church recently raised eyebrows after ordaining several pastrixes and being expelled from the SBC for it, having a “Blacks Only worship service” where no white members were allowed in, so the “black gold” could have a “safe space” to “heal,” and for having radical Pro-LGBTQ activists running Saddleback Church’s family ministries Lead to Love.
The megachurch is in week two of their ‘At The Movies’ sermon series, completing Top Gun: Maverick last week. According to Saddleback promos:
It’s a message series where we explore the biblical themes and meanings behind some of Hollywood’s biggest hits. Each week we watch clips from a different film and hear a powerful teaching from one of our pastors…movies are a reflection of us — each story shows us a glimpse of the human experience…. we’ll be talking about blockbuster movies and how we can apply their messages to Scripture.
For week two, after passing out bags of popcorn and snacks to everyone entering the ‘sanctuary,’ congregants were greeted by their pastors dressed up as characters from Toy Story 4, who delivered on so, so, so much cringe.

Every time I see a a picture of services like this my first thought is, “What a fun VBS!” Then I realize it isn’t VBS.
And people wonder what has happened to the American Church?! Rick Warren said in his purpose driven church drivel that he would use any means necessary to draw people (the world) into Saddleback (or the little clones he wanted to create). This is his legacy. We had a story on Barbie in a church. We had a story on Jurassic Park. Churches opened the door wide to the world and said “come on in!” And look what has happened as a result. If nothing else, look at the state of those 40 years old and under. That is the legacy Rick left for the Church.
