Lysa TerKeurst Announces Divorce from Husband after Further Infidelity
In 2017, one of Lifeways’ best-selling authors, Lysa TerKeurst announced that her husband of 25 years had repeatedly been unfaithful to her, and as a result, she was separating from him and pursuing a divorce.
TerKeurst is best known as the president of Proverbs 31 ministries and has written several New York Times bestsellers. She is an active member of Stephen Furtick’s Elevation Church, with all the dangers that come with that, and, because she learned it from the best, is a notorious bible-twister– frequently mishandling the scriptures to teach theological woo-woo to unsuspecting women and effete men.
Then, in December 2018 she revealed that she and her husband had renewed their wedding vows after a season of reconciliation, previously writing that summer “A gift. A hard prayed for and fought for, glorious, messy, miraculous, honest, treasured gift of together. Happy Father’s Day Art! The way you have pursued the Lord, healing, and us… is evidence of God’s supernatural grace and goodness.’
Sadly, it was not to be. In a Facebook post on social media on New Year’s day, she announced that her husband Art had again broken those vows and she was pursuing divorce again, writing:
Over the past several years, I have fought really hard to not just save my marriage, but to survive the devastation of what consistent deception of one spouse does to the other. It’s brutal and heart crushing to constantly fear the hurtful choices of someone you love. I’ve had to learn the hard way there’s a big difference between mistakes (which we all make) and chosen patterns of behavior that dishonor God and the biblical covenant of marriage.
I now believe the wisest (and hardest) choice I can make is to stop fighting to save my marriage of 29 years and, instead, accept reality.
While there is clear biblical justification for my decision to end this marriage, I am choosing to hold most of the details private out of respect for our children and grandchildren, and to give space and privacy for my family and me to continue to heal.
TerKeurst and her husband have 5 children, and we would ask our readers to pray for the entire family.
