Purported Last Words of Pastor John MacArthur Revealed

Close friends of the late pastor John MacArthur shared some of his final words, revealing that he was reflecting on 1 Corinthians 15:55 (“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”) before his passing.

During a Gracelife Fellowship group led by Grace Community Church elders Phil Johnson and Mike Riccardi, the two pastors discussed the life and legacy of their mentor and father figure, with the latter offering:

I’ll share this this last thought. I hope it’s okay to share, you know, what was reported to me by some of those who were with John in the hours that he was ready to go to heaven.

And one of the verses that were on his mind as his last, some of his last words, was 1 Corinthians 15:55. ‘Oh death, where is your victory? Oh death, where is your sting?’

And he was speaking about how the resurrection of Christ is the conquest of all of that. And it was reported to me that in between gasps for air, he said, “I feel no sting. I feel no fear.”

And why? You can clap for that. Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Because the Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. And really, because he was saying ‘It is well with my soul.’

  5. “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. ” – Gal. 6

Similar things have been on my mind recently. In that passage in 1 Cor. 15, Paul is talking about how the flesh is corrupt. It is perishable. How it was through Adam’s sin that the flesh became corrupted. And how the spirit is opposed to the flesh, and how that is what it means to be truly born again (Rom. 8:1-11, Gal. 5, etc.). It is through Jesus death and Resurrection, and his victory over the corruptible flesh, that we too have victory over the flesh. Because without that victory, we could not obey our Creator. We don’t have the capacity to obey of our own accord, imprisoned in, controlled by, and enslaved to corrupted, sinful flesh. It is only by the comfort of the Holy Spirit when we obey, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit when we disobey, that we can be good at all. Without that our righteousness, and our own ideas of what is good and not good, what is holy and what is not, is as filthy rags.

And the reason the unsaved do not understand, and will believe they’re doing good all day long every day, all while sinning all over the place non-stop, is because their righteousness is as filthy rags. Their righteousness is nothing but enslavement to the flesh.

And so death is not the victory of the flesh. It’s the Lord’s victory over the flesh. And because of Him, our victory over the flesh.

It is the key to understanding the entire Gospel …

    1. Without that victory, our spirit will die an eternal death along with our corrupted flesh. But with that victory, our flesh will die, yet our spirit will live eternal life.

So if the world wants to know which Creation account is true, which of all that’s out there is the truth, all they need to ask themselves is who rose from the dead. And this is what the Apostles called the “knowledge of the truth”

    2. Evolution is the very idea that the corrupted flesh can improve itself all by itself …

Yet look around. Is the flesh improving? Is Creation improving? Are people getting better? Are more people being good? … nope .. it’s all in decay, and getting worse. It’s corrupted.

      1. Have you ever thought about just writing a book instead of posting numerous times on this platform ? Sheeeeeeeesh…at least put it all in one post instead of hogging all the bandwidth out of the comments section.

        1. It’s text. Text uses very little bandwidth. Try a different insult next time . Or better yet, if you don’t want to read it then just don’t read it, and move along.

  6. I so respected Dr. MacArthur, but those guys need to stop with “his last words were…….”

  7. But (un)Redeemed Zoomer says John MacArthur went to hell for not calling Mary “Mother of God” and Pope Francis went to heaven for calling Mary “Mother of God.”
