‘Evangelicals For Harris’ Apologizes For Using Billy Graham Clips In Anti-Trump Election Ads

‘Evangelicals for America,’ formerly named ‘Evangelicals for Harris’ before President Trump’s recent electoral victory, has publicly apologized to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) for featuring their namesake in a series of 2024 ads targeting Republicans.
The group, which some might compare to “Queers for Palestine” and could be described as “Apostates for Harris,” claimed to represent evangelicals supporting the Harris/Walz ticket. They downplayed their radical agenda on issues like the economy, climate change, abortion expansion, LGBTQ promotion, undermining the nuclear family, and transgender policies affecting children.
During the campaign, the group released an ad featuring the late evangelist Billy Graham emphasizing the importance of seeking forgiveness at the cross: “Lord, I have sinned. I’m sorry for my sin. I’m willing to change my way of life.” This was contrasted with 2015 footage of Trump, who, when asked if he had ever sought God’s forgiveness, said: “I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so. I think if I do something wrong, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”

The ad prompted a response from Billy Graham’s son, Franklin Graham, who stated, “The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris” and are “trying to mislead people.” He noted that his father firmly supported Trump in 2016 and threatened legal action against the group for copyright infringement.
Initially defiant, the group bloviated, “Franklin Graham turned to a page in the Trump playbook and is trying to silence us with threats of a long and costly court process…We know the law is on our side in this case. If Franklin follows through on his threats, we’ll see him in court.”
However, their stance has softened-almost certainly against their will.
A recent post on X by Evangelicals for America, likely the result of a legal resolution, includes an apology for using the clip, acknowledges BGEA’s intellectual property, and confirms that all references to the ad have been removed and will not be reposted.
