Church Deacon Hailed as Hero For Running Over CrossPointe Church Mass Shooter With Truck

New details have emerged in the shooting outside a Michigan church this past Sunday, where a church member’s quick actions likely saved multiple lives after he struck an active shooter with his truck, stopping a rampage.
On Sunday, CrossPointe Community Church experienced an active shooter situation when a man wearing a tactical vest and armed with 500 rounds of ammunition drove up the church with his vehicle and opened fire.
The man has been identified as Brian Browning, 31, who previously attended the church a few times over the year with his mother. CrossPointe Senior Pastor Bobby Kelly Jr. told Fox2 that Browning claimed to be a prohet who heard from God, and that the two had a discussion on one occasion.
“He had some questions about the Bible. He kind of challenged me on some things in the Bible and so we went back-and-forth about some scripture for a little bit,” said Kelly.
The pastor met with Browning again in February, where it appeared the man was seeking help.
“He seemed to be genuine about needing some help. I don’t know exactly what it was cause he didn’t say – didn’t say it was mental health. He didn’t say it was an issue that he had or any of that, he just said you know, ‘can you help me with some things?’ and I said sure,” said Kelly.
Mercifully, one of CrossPointe’s deacons, Richard Pryor observed the incident and drove his Ford F-150 at the suspect, striking and injuring him. As Browning turned his attention away from the church and started shooting at the vehicle, two members of the church security team shot him dead.
A GoFundMe to help Pryor purchase a new truck was set up after his was shot up with bullets from Browning. It has raised $22,841 against a goal of $26,000 at the time of publishing.

Along with the quick-thinking actions of Pryor, Ron Amann also helped stop the shooting. A decade ago, he and others formed the church’s safety team in order to prepare for this eventual possibility, even attending a training session at a nearby shooting range just three days before the attack. He told Detroit WXYZ:
“I heard a popping, a pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, noise that I couldn’t quite identify. It stopped, I heard it again, and probably within a few seconds after that, someone came running in the back of the sanctuary and said there’s a shooter out there,” Amann said.
As others took cover, Amann sent off his family to take cover, and then he went toward the shots.
“When I got into that area, he (shooter) was sitting on the ground with a rifle, and he was sitting away from me, so he turned to make a sweep of the glass with his gun and just held the trigger and shot through,” Amann said.
Amann was shot in the leg, fracturing his tibia. He had his gun drawn, ready to use it if Browning came through the doors, when another member of the safety team, Jay Trombley, who had attended the shooting range with Amann a couple of days earlier, shot and killed Browning.
Amann will need to be off work for several months while he recovers, and a GoFundMe has been set up for him.
