‘Focus on the Family’ Responds to Critics Accusing Them of Going Woke, Compromising on LGBTQ Stance

The storied Christian organization ‘Focus on the Family’ (FOTF) has responded to allegations that they’ve compromised on the question of whether being gay is a sin, which came on the heels of them posting this missive on social media:

The post originally linked to an article about the sinfulness of homosexuality, seen below, but then later redirected it to another article. However, the original article has been achieved here.

Focus on the Family was quickly ratioed, with some commenters criticizing the lack of clarity while others pointed out that the theology presented in the original article was unsound.

At the time we defended FOTF to an extent, writing:
“Focus on the Family makes a delineation between homosexual feelings and actions. We believe they are wrong about unintentional gay feelings and desires, which we’d say are sinful as well. Still, it’s not accurate to say that Focus on the Family has compromised on the LGBTQ question or to write them off as woke, given that they articulate what 90% of evangelicals against LGBTQ believe about it and would label any homosexual activity as “sinful.”
More specifically, as progressive Baptist News Global disgustedly notes, “Focus on the Family and its various political advocacy groups are the single most influential driver of anti-LGBTQ and anti-trans legislation now sweeping statehouses across the nation” and “Focus on the Family lobbying affiliate is the unifying force behind campaign to restrict transgender rights.”
Following the outcry, FOTF released a follow-up post on X, acknowledging that the post caused some confusion. They reiterated that “homosexual behavior is fundamentally in conflict with the Christian faith” and rejected the moniker and designation of a “gay Christian.”

They later followed up on Facebook, again marking an important difference between homosexual feelings and desires and acting on them, while offering “as with any sinful behavior, it’s not about being tempted, but about willfully engaging in activity that goes against God’s law.”

I don’t think FOTF helped themselves …..
I am creating an honest wage from home of 1900 Dollars/week, which is wonderful, below a year gone I was unemployed during an atrocious economy. I convey God daily. I used to be endowed with these directions and currently, I have to pay it forward and share it with everybody, Limited time only – grab it !”

“They later followed up on Facebook, again marking an important difference between homosexual feelings and desires and acting on them…”.
Psycho-semantics.
Sin begins in the heart, regardless of whether it’s manifested through works or not. If lust and hate in the heart is the same as adultery and murder acted out, then God looks on the feeling as having acted on them – Matthew 5.
FOTF needs the quit posting for a while and get Biblically faithful with their responses.
And for what it’s worth, those struggling with homosexual or any sinful desire are made new creatures when God truly saves them – 2 Co.r 5:17. He will realign their desires to His Word through the Holy Spirit’s daily sanctification. But they cannot stay the same, or else it is a false conversion produced only by a guilty conscience without repentance.
It is not good to struggle with a desire to sin. Whatever the sin, it’s not good.
I think, for some, they convince themselves that it’s somehow a noble thing, as if they’re fighting a battle for good. No, it’s neither noble nor good. The Lord has already won that battle.
If you want to turn away from sin, you can.
If you want to do away with the desire to sin, you can.
If you don’t want to struggle with it, you wont.
If you truly want to fully repent, you will.
If you want to turn away immediately and instantaneously, you can.
The spirit is stronger than the flesh. It’s far more powerful than the mind. The desire to serve the Lord and to live in a manner pleasing to Him will far outweigh any and all other desires. The Lord’s yoke is easy. And His burden is light. The question is, what do you truly want ….
