(Exclusive) New Michael Brown Memoir Released Amid Misconduct Investigation, But Our Insider Says There’s More To The Story
Author, apologist, and The Line of Fire radio host Dr. Michael Brown has released his new memoir right in the middle of an ongoing sexual misconduct investigation, resulting in harsh criticism and accusations of being “tone-deaf’ to his victims, but is that the whole story?
Late last year, Brown was accused by Sarah Erin Monk of sexually inappropriate conduct that would frequently cross physical boundaries, including holding her hand, kissing her on the lips, and slapping her butt. Further, it was alleged that he’d had a sexual affair with another unnamed woman.
In response to the first claim, Brown has admitted some aspects and denied other, writing, “My interaction with her, although totally non-sexual in every way, reflected a definite lack of judgment on my part…(they were) certainly foolish and irresponsible – but neither sexual nor amorous in any way.”
To the latter, he insisted that he never committed adultery and he never crossed the line sexually. Brown says that the unnamed woman (who passed away in 2021) and her husband were close friends of his, and he developed an inappropriate “emotional, not a physical tie” to her during these months, but that it was ultimately confessed to both spouses in 2002.
While Brown does not address these allegations in his memoir, as they emerged following the completion of his book, he does delve into the larger context during which these events took place, candidly describing the ups and downs of “this very difficult season of life and ministry.”
While Brown has stepped away from ministry while a third-party investigation is currently ongoing, the emergence of the memoir and its timing has left many critics fuming.
The book Living in the Line of Fire: How God Can Turn Rebels Into Revivalists and Broken People Into World-Changers is the “life story” of Brown, who explains in the preface that he did not write the book to be “self-aggrandizing,” but rather “to testify to the amazing goodness and faithfulness and mercy and power of God, to encourage others with what He can do through a frail, human vessel, to demonstrate that all things are possible to the one who believes.”
As late as a week ago, it was being teased by publisher Destiny Image, but it is presently not available on their website for purchase.
Likewise, while it is no longer listed on Amazon USA, it is listed on their Canadian site, with a ‘publication postponed’ tag on the book
It is presently available on The Line Of Fire website, however.
When we questioned the timing of the release to one of our sources who is familiar with the matter and whose identity we have confirmed, they said that the publication date was set up months in advance prior to the revelation.
Furthermore, the source revealed that The Line Of Fire ministry team and Board originally believed that the investigation would have been completed by the end of 2024, resulting in an exoneration of the more odious accusations and the reaffirmation of the sins Brown has already confessed and repented of.
In this way, Brown and his team did not believe these accusations would be unresolved by the launch date and saw no need to push back the release.
Once it became clear that the investigation would not be able to start until well into 2025, Brown’s team suggested to the publisher that the book be delayed. With it already going to press, however, Brown and his publisher settled on a soft launch, where it would be available on some platforms but not advertised or given any publicity.
If/ when the investigation concludes and The Line of Fire Board is satisfied with the findings, there will be a full and proper launch. For now, Brown’s ministry seems content for it to trickle out to whoever discovers it, with free copies of the book scheduled to be sent out to some of the ministry’s supporters when the investigation is completed.
