Former Alabama Pastor & Church Planter Jailed After Armed Bank Robbery

The former lead pastor of Landmark Church in Phenix City, Alabama, is being held in the Russell County jail after being arrested in late December for robbing a bank earlier that week. According to Premier Christian News:

Authorities say Kevin Robert McDonald, 40, entered the bank armed with a handgun, demanded money, and fled with an undisclosed amount. No one was injured during the incident.

McDonald was arrested in Columbus, Georgia, and charged with first-degree robbery. He remains in custody with a $100k bond not yet posted.

A female accomplice, identified as Lindsay Dara Jenkins, was also arrested and charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the incident. Though unlike McDonald she has been able to post bail, according to court records.

Though since removed from his former church’s website, an archived bio of McDonald details a long history of church planting and evangelism.

Pastor Kevin and wife Jennifer have been married for over 20 years and together have three children: Toby (19), Brady (16), and Olivia (10). They both came to know the LORD on January 9, 2009 and have spent the last 15 years spreading the love of God. Kevin was ordained through Nazarene Bible College. He has pastored churches in California, North Carolina, Kansas, and Missouri and planted over 15 new churches along the way. Kevin’s passion for preaching and living in community with God’s people has enabled him to lead thousands to Christ and baptize over 600 people over the last 15 years.

An online profile of him conducted by Citizens of East Aalama in 2021 has McDonald explaining that he once struggled with drug abuse before his conversion but that Christ saved him and restored his life.

I have only been a Christian for 12 years. Before I was a Christian, I was pretty broken. I was hooked on drugs, alcohol, and many other bad things. When I came to Christ everything changed. He saved me, my marriage and everything else. I was so excited about what Jesus did for me that I wanted to spend the rest of my life sharing this real amazing Good News. Nine years ago I started as a pastor and have loved every minute of it!
