Did You Know? The ELCA’s Clergy Health Plan Covers Sex Changes for Children
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America occasionally puts its money where its mouth is, particularly when it comes to investing dollars in its deviltry and the values that are important to it. One example is the little-known fact that the denomination funds abortion services for its clergy through its health benefit plan, and another is that it also funds sex-changes for adults and children.
Portico Benefit Services is a ministry of the ELCA that provides “comprehensive benefits to the rostered ministers and lay employees of the ELCA’s congregations, synods, and churchwide organization” to “help leaders strengthen their financial, emotional, and physical well-being.”
Completely self-funded by tithes and offerings, without the aid or intervention of outside insurance companies, Portico serves some fifty thousand individuals, having the freedom to provide tailored and unrestricted benefits in terms of medical, dental, vision, etc.
While congregants may think their weekly giving helps fund run-of-the-mill benefits for hearing aids, hospital stays, insulin, chemotherapy, etc., what many don’t know is that their dollars are also helping fund “gender-affirming care” for Lutheran ministers or their family members.
Initially announced in 2015 but then deleted from Portico’s website, Portico’s board of trustees announced that it voted to “remove exclusions in the ELCA Health Plan related to treatment for gender dysphoria” and now will cover “services including mental health therapy, hormone therapy, and sex reassignment surgery, up to a maximum of $75,000 in eligible expenses over a lifetime.”
We read in Portico’s 2023 Healthcare guide:
A 2017 version of the guide explained that coverage included “Gender reassignment surgery and all surgeries related to gender reassignment when such surgeries are pre-certified by Care Coordinators, including facial hair removal, blepharoplasty, face lift, facial bone reconstruction, rhinoplasty, liposuction, and reduction thyroid chondroplasty.”
This news prompted Extraordinary Lutheran Ministry director Amalia Vagts to praise the response, as they had advocated and lobbied for it, writing that “These changes will provide greater health care access to Portico plan members who are transgender, allowing them to make their own informed choices regarding their health in consultation with their health care providers.”
h/t exposing the ELCA
Absolutely disgusting! That is a “church” of the world, NOT of God!
