Robert Morris’ Son, James Morris, Announces New Church Plant After Stepping Down From Gateway

America’s largest megachurch is likely to lose a ton of people after Gateway Church’s former leader in waiting, James Morris, launched a new website announcing that they’ve begun a “church planting journey” and are inviting people to “sign up for details, prayer points, and more information as the Lord leads us on our next adventure.”

Morris was about to take over the role of lead pastor of Gateway Church, the 100,000-member Hustin megachurch founded and led by his father, Robert Morris, until it was revealed that the elder Morris had sexually abused a 12-year old girl in the ’80s, causing the church to permanently part ways with Robert and James to resign.

Now, James has a plan. He explains on his site:

We are excited to announce the beginning of an extraordinary journey that started as a dream in our hearts to be Pastors of a vibrant church passionate about the presence of God and filled with people who love God and love people. We believe God gave us this dream and many prophetic words, beginning when we were young, for such a time as this. We are taking time to rest, pray, and hear from the Lord after this last season. We are filled with anticipation, expectation, and hope as we hear from God about when, where, and how to plant a church.

This journey is not just about reaching a destination but about embracing the profound experiences and growth along the way. We are confident that God is good and in control.

We invite you to join us in this adventure by walking alongside us or supporting us from afar. Together, we can experience the remarkable impact God’s goodness has on the world around us.

Given that he was a top-rated speaker and the heir apparent, if James does decide to plant a church in the Houston Area, he will almost certainly draw away hundreds of congregants who are currently attending Gateway Church and pick up many of the thousands who stopped attending in light of the betraying revelations.

Gateway Church Evacuated After Bomb Threat Called In

The Southlake campus of Robert Morris’ megachurch was evacuated earlier this week after an anonymous called in and claimed there was a bomb at the embattled church.

According to police reports obtained by TRR, the church, which is facing a mountain of backlash and scrutiny after news broke that their famous pastor, Robert Morris, sexually molested a 12-year girl nearly 35 years ago and subsequently covered it up, received a phone call on Monday saying there was a bomb at the church and that it would blow up in 30 minutes.

Police, fire, and medical teams arrived on site and officers quickly swept the building, clearing the location in under two hours before deeming it safe to return.

Police say that the incoming number came from a phone associated with a 79-year-old woman who has dementia, and which reportedly hasn’t been used in over 20 years, suggesting her number was being misused by malicious parties in some way.

The report states:

Officers cleared the building and were able to determine that the bomb threat call
came in from (1-817 (redacted)

This phone number is an after hours only number and the voicemail went call center who notified dispatch. I spoke with the safety and security director for Gateway church and Kemtal Glasglow who is one of the executive directors. They were able to conference me in with their IT department who advised the 817-(redacted) number is a receiving Zoom number only and cannot make outgoing calls.

TLOing the phone number shows that number is associated with an (name redacted) out of Whicita Falls. I was able to make contact with her and her grandson, who both advised that 5899 number is a very old number for (name redacted) and hasn’t been used by her in over 20 years.

(name redacted) stated that we can call him in the future if there are any other issues
at (name redacted) has Dementia. 911 call added to patrol photos.

Megachurch Pastor Robert Morris of Gateway Church Responds to Accusations of Child Sexual Abuse “It Was Kissing and Petting”

Robert Morris is the senior pastor of Gateway Church, the largest church in America, which has more than 100,000 people spread across several campuses. He has been accused of years-long child sexual abuse of a twelve year old girl, according to an article from Wartburg Watch, which has spoken to the alleged victim.

Cindy Clemishire says she was eleven years old when she met Robert Morris, who at the time was a married twenty-year-old evangelist. He started to preach at her home church and eventually became friends with the family, including going on trips together. According to Cindy, that all changed on 12/25/1982, Christmas night, when:

The Morris family came to visit and spend some time there. Cindy sat in the back seat of the car with Robert. He asked her to visit him in his room that night. She shared a room with her sister. Cindy, an innocent twelve-year-old girl, movingly described what she was wearing. She was wearing pink pajamas with bloomer pants. She wore underwear underneath. She had a snap-up robe on. I laughed. I used to dress for bed similarly.

She thought nothing of visiting a family friend in their bedroom. He told her to lie down on her back and touched her stomach. He told her to close her eyes. Then he touched her breasts and felt under her panties. He warned her:

Never tell anyone about this because it will ruin everything.

She returned to her bedroom and didn’t tell her sister what happened.

Robert Morris repeated this behavior until March 1987. This would happen in Texas and Oklahoma, and the family would stay at the Morris home in Texas. Her father donated money to Robert’s ministry, not realizing what was happening to his daughter.

This sexual contact and molestations continued until she was sixteen, while he was pastor at Shady Grove Church, which ultimately became Gateway Church-Grand Prairie Campus.

Cindy eventually confided in a friend who reported it to her father. In response, her father issued a threat to Morris, demanding that he step down from the ministry he would report the abuse to law enforcement. The family friendship imploded and Morris complied, stepping away from ministry for two years. However, he eventually returned and became head of the biggest church in the country.

Morris has previously detailed his rebellious roots, where he would routinely engage in sexual sin as a teenager, explicitly targeting girls he viewed as vulnerable. In his book From Dream to Destiny, he claims he stepped back from the ministry and took a regular job when he was 25, the time he was exposed, due to “pride.”

Wartburg further shares:

Cindy sought a financial settlement to help reimburse her for her counseling, but she wouldn’t sign an NDA. In 2005, she obtained an attorney to file a civil lawsuit. Robert Morris’s attorney responded by implying that they believed it was her fault because she was “flirtatious.” She asked for $50,000 (which was not much in my estimation.) They responded that they would give her $25,000 if she signed an NDA. She refused, so she can now tell her side of the story.

After being recently confronted about it, the Elders of Gateway Church have release a statement to staffers in case they get proactively asked about it, saying that Morris had a “moral failure” 35 years ago, and was “involved in an inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady” and that “it was kissing and petting and not intercourse.”

However, according to Cindy, she was not a “young lady” but rather a CHILD, and the alleged child sexual abuse lasted 4.5 years. This is a not just an instantly and eternally disqualifying sin, but this is a CRIME, and cursed is anyone who helped cover it up.
