Hans Schmidt, Evangelist Shot in Head While Street Preaching, Shares Health Update ‘It’s a Miracle, Absolutely a Miracle.’

Late last November, Hans Schmidt, a 26-year-old former military combat medic who is married with two small children, was preaching the gospel in the public square in Glendale, Arizona, when a car pulled up near him and shot him in the head. He told ABC15 News in a new report:

“I remember falling to my knee. And then after that, I was like, ‘Oh, something’s not right. I grabbed all my gear, put it back in the car. I drove my car back to church.”

Upon arrival, he went to tell his wife what happened, but no words would come out. His wife Zulya shared:

“He just, like, comes to the car and, like, I remember just seeing, like blood. And I’m like, ‘What happened? What happened?'”

Sensing something was deeply wrong, but unsure of the exact nature of his injuries- not even knowing that he was shot in the head at this point. Zulya and her brother decided to take Schmit to the hospital. He started seizing while in the vehicle and arrived at the hospital unresponsive. He was placed on life support and in a medically induced coma, with everyone believing he was going to pass away.

Prayers came from saints across the world, and a month later, he spoke for the first time. A month after that, in late January, he walked out of the hospital with bullet fragments still lodged in his brain after the neurosurgeon decided that surgery was too risky to remove them all.

“I should not be alive, realistically, I should be dead. And because (of) His grace and love, I’m still here.”

Though he’s still in recovery, Schmidt says he’s eager to get back to work, and doctors say he’ll be able to lead a mostly normal life. The long-term and short-term effects of the brain damage he suffered are unclear and have not been shared publicly.

Even knowing that the person who fired the gun is still out there, Hans is back at the corner of 51st and Peoria avenues, ready to share his new testimony.

“I don’t think that holding a grudge against him is going to change anything,” Hans said. “I think it’s important to forgive people. And I forgive him.”

‘We Serve a Miracle-Working God’ + Evangelist Shot in Head While Street Preaching Returns to Church

A month after evangelist Hans Schmidt was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and into a long-term care facility within the hospital, the result of being shot in the head while street preaching, he returned to church with family in tow and even played the drums during the service.

Schmidt, a 26-year-old former military combat medic who is married with two small children, was preaching the gospel in the public square last November when he was fired upon, causing significant bodily injury. He was able to make it back to the church despite having a bullet lodged in his brain, but once in the hospital, his condition rapidly deteriorated until detectives and doctors thought he would not make it.

The culprit was never apprehended.

Despite the initial grim prognostication, Hans has improved greatly in the last two months, though he still faces many challenges physically and cognitively. His wife Zulya recently posted on Instagram:

“We serve a miracle-working God. He walks, he talks, he even plays the drums. God has done an incredible work in Hans’ life and every day he continues to improve. Please continue to pray for a full restoration 💙

Traffic Cam Shows Moment AZ Street Preacher Hans Schmidt Shot in Head+ $10,000 Reward Offered

Glendale Police have released street camera footage showing the exact moment evangelist Hans Schmidt was shot in the head preaching the gospel. Sadly, the video, in which Schmidt appears shot from behind, is too grainy to see where the gunfire came from and identify any perpetrators. Viewer discretion is advised.

Schmidt, a 26-year-old former military combat medic who is married with two small children, was preaching the gospel in the public square when he was fired upon, causing great bodily injury. According to a GoFundMe released in his name, the bullet traveled through his brain and lodged on the right side of his head. As of a week ago, it was considered inoperable, and absent a miracle, severe and sustained brain damage is likely.

The suspect remains at large, and the group Silent Witness has offered a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.

Since the shooting, folks have been rallying around Schmidt, with dozens of people from different churches occupying the same corner he was shot at to preach and share the gospel, with the church reporting two salvations.

Arizona Church Leader Shot in the Head While Street Preaching

(AZ Family) A congregation is in shock after a beloved religious leader was shot in the head while preaching on a Glendale street corner on Wednesday night. In an update on Friday morning, Glendale police say 26-year-old Hans Schmidt, a husband and father of two, remains in critical condition and officers are asking for the public’s help in finding who’s responsible.

It happened on the northwest corner of 51st and Peoria avenues around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Friends say it happened as the former military combat medic was standing with a megaphone on the street corner, preaching the gospel to people passing by, something he’d apparently done countless times before. Only this time, someone pulled out a gun and shot him.

Friends and family can’t understand why. “Who knows why someone would want to take it out on a preacher like that because he’s speaking the gospel and good news to everybody. He’s out to help the community,” said Henry Branch, who lives nearby. Schmidt also helps lead weekly services at the Victory Chapel as… to continue reading click here.
