Filthy Keller Center Describes Jesus as ‘Penetrating the Church’ with the ‘Seed of the Word’

Consistent with the awful hermeneutic and pandering cultural relevancy the site has become known for, the Gospel Coalition’s Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics published an article about the similarities between sexual intercourse and the church’s union with Christ.

We wish we were making this up.

Arizona pastor Josh Butler, author of the 2016 book The Pursuing God: A Reckless, Irrational, Obsessed Love That’s Dying to Bring Us Home, told readers in his recent article that sex is designed to point us to Jesus:

Sex is an icon of Christ and the church. In Ephesians 5:31–32, a “hall of fame” marriage passage, the apostle Paul proclaims, “‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church” (NIV; I’ve translated proskollao as “cleave”).

And later:

Paul says both [leave and cleave and becoming one flesh] are about Christ and the church.

And just to put the grossest imagery out there:

…what deeper form of self-giving is there than sexual union where the husband pours out his very presence not only upon but within his wife?

Setting aside for a moment exactly what Butler means by a husband “pouring out his presence into his wife,” there is no biblical indication that the self-sacrificial, agape love that Christ has for his church and is emulated by husbands (Ephesians 5:25) is in any way analogous to the sexual union between man and wife (eros). Yet not to be deterred, Butler takes his intercourse metaphor to its disgusting and absurd end:

Christ arrives in salvation to be not only with his church but within his church. Christ gives himself to his beloved with extravagant generosity, showering his love upon us and imparting his very presence within us. Christ penetrates his church with the generative seed of his Word and the life-giving presence of his Spirit, which takes root within her and grows to bring new life into the world.

You read that right – the Keller Center for Cultural Compromise Apologetics is teaching that Jesus penetrates his bride and delivers his seed – his “generous gift within her.” This is a parody-level, overbroad interpretation of the bride of Christ metaphor – something the Babylon Bee might cook up if it wasn’t blasphemous and borderline pornographic.

At Protestia, we have a pretty strong gag reflex. But this article is one of the grossest things we’ve ever read, and we’re having a hard time not throwing up.

The 10 Highest-Grossing Christian Movies of All Time

Disclaimer. Half these movies aren’t ‘Christian’ at all and some such as The Shack and Heaven is for Real are openly heretical. Not only this, but the number #1 film is (spoilers) rife with bizarre Roman Catholic iconography and theology. Crosswalk is undiscerning for not pointing all this out. Still, the list is interesting.

(Crosswalk) Christian movies are a regular entry in today’s theaters, yet 25 years ago, they were essentially non-existent.

But then Mel Gibson’s The Passion of The Christ (2004) shocked Hollywood with its popularity, claiming the No. 1 spot at the box office for three weekends. The dynamic changed again when Alex and Stephen Kendrick’s Facing the Giants (2006) and Fireproof (2008) demonstrated that Christian movies don’t need a multi-million-dollar budget to succeed.

The popularity of those three films inspired countless young Christian filmmakers to hone their talent in the industry.

The list of highest-grossing Christian movies (see below) comes with a few caveats. It does not include 1998’s The Prince of Egypt, which is generally considered a “studio” movie rather than a Christian film (even though I’m a big fan of it). It also does not include movies from yesterday, such as 1956’s The Ten Commandments or 1959’s Ben-Hur, which would rank Nos. 1 and 2 when adjusted for inflation. Finally, the list uses domestic gross, not worldwide gross. (Thus, Breakthrough, which ranks in the Top 10 in worldwide gross, gets bumped out of the domestic list.)

Here are the 10 highest-grossing Christian movies of all time:

10. The Star ($40,852,824)

The story of Jesus’ birth is told through the eyes of the animals who walked alongside Mary and Joseph. This 2017 animated film starred top-shelf talent such as Zachary Levi, Tyler Perry, Keegan-Michael Key, Patricia Heaton, Christopher Plummer and Gina Rodriguez. It was nominated for a Golden Globe (Best Original Song), a Movie Guide Award and a GMA Dove Award. Rated PG for some thematic elements.

9. Soul Surfer ($43,853,424)

A 13-year-old surfer overcomes the loss of her left arm during a shark attack to compete once again. It’s the true story of Bethany Hamilton, who relied on her faith and the support of family and friends to learn to surf with one arm. It starred Anna Sophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood. It was nominated for a Teen Choice Award, a People’s Choice Award and an ESPY. It won a Movie Guide Award for Best Movie for Families. Rated PG for an intense accident sequence and some thematic material.

8. The Shack ($57,386,418)

Mack, a father who is grieving the murder of his 7-year-old daughter, finds healing after receiving a letter from “Papa,” who invites him to a meeting in the forest. Mack meets Papa and then meets two others – Jesus and Sarayu. The movie was based on the bestselling novel of the same name by… to continue readng, click here.

Coronavirus In-person Church Righteous Defiance Scandal

California Megachurches Rebrand as ‘Family Friendly Strip Club’ to Avoid Shutdown Restrictions – Pastors Striptease to Prove it

In order to bypass harsh shutdown restrictions in their county which prohibits houses of worship from being open, a couple of California churches have taken to referring to themselves as a “family-friendly strip club” in order to qualify as a business allowed to stay open, with senior pastors even doing a little dance and throwing their ties into the crowd as members hold up dollar bills to a burlesque soundtrack. [Editor’s Note: These stripteases are disgusting and sinful and these pastors and congregations should be ashamed of themselves.]

Awaken Church and Godspeaks Calvary Church of San Diego had their pastors take the pulpit and do a “family-friendly” striptease before the service started, a tongue-in-cheek move done to satisfy details for an exemption after San Diego Superior Court ruled November 6 that strip clubs were allowed reopen while churches were not.

Senior Pastor of Awaken Church Jurgen Matthesius wrote on Instagram:

STRIP CLUBS (Not Churches) are exempt from the Covid lockdowns, and are deemed essential by our governor! Soooooo…we decided we are NOW AWAKEN FAMILY FRIENDLY STRIP CLUB! (Where we strip the devil of his hold, power & authority over people’s lives!) Enjoy the intro to the preach today! [sic]

In a similar move, Pastor Rob McCoy of God Speak Chapel did likewise, taking it up a notch in a manner that reeks of blasphemy in the house of the Lord.

Awaken Church received a cease-and-desist order last week that said if the state’s COVID-19 guidelines aren’t followed, which involves ceasing indoor services, the County would take further action, the least which would be a $1,000 fine for each citation violation.

While these two churches receive mild praise for defying the government and staying open: with behavior like this, they’d be better off closed.
