Healing and forgiveness work in tandem throughout the Scripture. You will find them in the same phrase consistently because it was the basic same payment of headed to the cross, the stripes that he bore, the blood that he shed that dealt with sickness as well as forgiveness. ~ Bill Johnson

Following the death of his wife Beni from cancer, Bill Johnson, pastor of the 10,000-member Bethel Church in Redding, California, has purged his website, deleting several posts which declared it was always God’s will to heal, that those who are prayed over and not healed is because of lack of faith on the part of the one seeking the healing, and rhetorically asking “how can God choose not to heal someone when He already purchased their healing?”

Johnson himself has routinely taught that with enough faith, one can be healed, as healing is a promise that is a part of the gospel, that it is always God’s will to heal and that people should never pray “if it be Thy will to heal,” Because Bethel prides itself on existing in a supernatural atmosphere, the church incessantly advertises all the miracles that happen within their congregation.

In fact, Bethel pays a staff member, whom they describe as a “church historian,” to curate and document thousands of alleged healings in their church, documenting them for posterity.

Before Beni’s death, Bill had this article up on his website, along with one asking if God ever causes sickness. Now, they’ve been deleted, with the Wayback Machine capturing the offending missive:

Is it Always God’s will to heal someone?
How can God choose not to heal someone when He already purchased their healing? Was His blood enough for all sin, or just certain sins? Were the stripes He bore only for certain illnesses, or certain seasons of time? When He bore stripes in His body He made a payment for our miracle. He already decided to heal. You can’t decide not to buy something after you’ve already bought it.
There are no deficiencies on His end – neither the covenant is deficient, nor His compassion or promises. All lack is on our end of the equation. The only time someone wasn’t healed in the Bible (gospels) is when the disciples prayed for them. For example, Mark 9 when they prayed for the tormented child. They did not have breakthrough. But then, Jesus came and brought healing and deliverance to the child.
Jesus Christ is perfect theology – He is the will of God. We can’t lower the standard of scripture to our level of experience . . . or in most cases, inexperience. It’s a very uncomfortable realization – not everyone can handle it. Most create doctrine that you can’t find in the person of Jesus. He is the will of God.
How do we fix the problem?
1. Realize it’s not God’s fault.
2. Learn from others who see miracles. Have them pray for you. If you don’t know people who see miracles, find them. Books will help, if the author has a miracle lifestyle. (Don’t try to learn from those who only have the theory of miracles.)
3. Do what Jesus told His disciples to do when He addressed the problem – pray and fast (not just for a specific problem, but for a lifestyle anointing.)
4. Take risk – pray for people (NOT – “if it be thy will” kind of prayer. In the thousands of people I’ve seen healed, I’ve never seen anyone healed from that kind of prayer.)
5. It’s hard to hurt someone’s faith by praying for a miracle. Not praying for a miracle gives them no chance for increased faith. That is what hurts faith. The real goal is to show people God’s love. And faith grows in the display of God’s love. His love is seen when we show compassion and display God’s power.
6. When God heals people, give Him thanks and praise. Learn from it so it will happen again.
7. If someone isn’t healed, realize the problem isn’t God, and seek Him for direction as well as personal breakthrough (greater anointing for consistency in healing). Also, don’t take it personal. There are other factors involved besides great faith. That is only one element in the equation. Just learn to do your best to be faithful to His gospel, and honor Him for the results. It’s also not wise to blame the person who is sick.
8. There’s a difference between a miracle and healing. Miracles happen in an instant and healing happens over time. It is important to recognize the progress of what God is doing in a person’s body and give thanks, because healing increases in an atmosphere of thankfulness.

And hence the incongruence. The church and their pastors regularly claim to heal Stage-4 cancer, and yet Beni died from that. The church offers classes and courses on how to heal and do miracles, yet when faced with a real health crisis they falter. The church has a “School of Supernatural Ministry” and dedicated “Healing Rooms” yet shut both down during the pandemic.

We don’t know the extent that Johnson will continue to purge his former teaching, but rest assured that over the years we have been archiving everything we find, and the internet will always live forever.

Bethel Church Head Honcho Bill Johnson has announced that his wife Beni Johnson is presently undergoing chemotherapy, the result of several tumors being revealed by a CT scan inside her body after a season of prolonged illness.

Johnson made the announcement during yesterdays’ church service, explaining:

Benni and I took the last several weeks, 3-4 weeks off vacation and did one of the things we like doing the most and that’s staying at home- a staycation.

One of the reasons we actually didn’t go anywhere this year is because Beni has been so sick. She’s not been well for a while but especially the last month. We arranged to have a CT scan- they found three very large tumors and so she is undergoing chemo. The first treatment was this last week.

And we are like everybody else, contending for the breakthrough that’s already been provided, we know that’s true. There’s that weird verse in proverbs that says:” The horse is prepared for the day of battle, the victory belongs to the Lord.” So we’re doing the natural thing knowing that our salvation really is in the hand of the Lord.

Beni was previously diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.

Lead prophet Kris Vallotton, taking the stage, told the congregants that “this isn’t a season of mourning, but of warfare” and prayed against the cancer.

After the prayer, Johnson told the stunned crowd:

We’re not begging for a miracle. It’s already been bought and paid for. The entire Christian life for me is learning what’s in my possession and what’s in my account and how to make withdrawals, and that’s the entire Christian life.

…Guilt and shame is false humility, and it introduces you to an insulation to breakthrough, and so what you want to do is stay away from that…but what we know for sure is that divine health is our portion. We know that no weapon formed against us can prosper. We know that he sent his word that is finely tuned and specifically designed for Benni’s situation.

He sent his word and healed her. We know that by the stripes of Jesus- did you know the stripes of Jesus, the suffering, was not necessary for your redemption? It was necessary for our healing. The death on the cross was necessary for our salvation- the shedding of blood, but not the suffering from a whip. That was for the healing. That was for the deliverance.

CT Today reported years ago during her first diagnosis that in 2017 “Beni Johnson revealed she had a heavenly encounter with Jesus in the spirit and gained access to healing power over cancer” and told the congregants to begin grabbing the healing power of cancer “out of heaven” as a means of obtaining healing.

Last month during a Q&A Johnson explained that “It is always God’s will to heal everyone” and that he never prays “if it be your will to heal”, as that is a prayer for unbelief, given that God has already revealed to Johnson that’s it’s always his will.
