Given the rate of promiscuity among young women and loneliness among young men, we had better have a theology of Expiation strong enough to handle it.
The Protestia X account did what it does best. It threw a theological grenade into the rotting temple of modern evangelical sentimentalism and stood back to let the dust settle. The tweet read, “Better to marry a former OF model who has come to know the depths of her sin and the mercy of the Lord, than an unkissed virgin with a haughty look and a proud heart.”
What followed was predictable: a stampede of screeching outrage, not from liberal heretics or blue-haired witches, but from the alt-right young men who usually chant “Christ is King” with us in the trenches. Apparently, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is fine when it saves murderers, warlords, and Confederate war generals, but not when it washes clean the girl with a body count. We can forgive Saul of Tarsus, but not the girl who had a stripper pole in her living room.

What this backlash revealed is that even among those who claim the name of Christ, there is a deadly misunderstanding about the nature of redemption. They love the aesthetics of Christianity (the blood, the cross, the judgment) but they have no patience for the glory of forgiveness. They wield law like a war hammer but have no category for grace. To them, the Gospel is a tool for smashing their enemies, not resurrecting their sisters. That is why I responded the way I did. I said: “This tweet from Protestia brought some H8rs out of the woodwork. But let me be clear: We are going to stand with the Gospel Doctrine of Expiation, and continue to proclaim its supernatural power to redeem sinners.”
And then I quoted that sacred stanza, the one that makes demons tremble and Pharisees gag:
There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.
That’s the kind of Gospel I believe in. Not the cold, graceless accounting system of embittered keyboard monks. Not the cultural conservatism of Twitter avatars who mistake piety for prejudice. But the blood-soaked, scandalous, universe-altering power of Jesus Christ to make whores holy, to turn shame into glory, and to make the ugliest sin bow its head before the mercy of God.
Ironically, the segment of readers most irate at Protestia’s tweet or my rejoinder were the Christian Nationalists, who on any other day, would be busy talking about the salvation of our culture and race. And yet, the most important thing we can do to help our culture thrive and race prosper, is to convince young men to marry young women and young women to bear them children. That’s going to be really hard when the young women have gone through hoe phases and young men are too disgusted to touch them. There’s not a scenario that produces babies in that.
PROMISCUITY IS A MODERN PLAGUE
Let us not get confused. Sexual promiscuity is not a neutral matter. It is a cultural catastrophe of cosmic proportions. It is not merely a bad decision. It is the desecration of what God made sacred. It leaves scars on bodies, minds, families, and souls. And it is everywhere. Young people today are not just dabbling in casual sex, they are drowning in it. According to recent surveys, a majority of young adults consider sex on the first date to be more normal than having a conversation about marriage. Many say physical intimacy is easier than emotional vulnerability, and they treat sexual bonding like handshakes at a networking event. The soul has been divorced from the body, and now both are collapsing.
The numbers are unrelenting. Gen Z women report more sexual partners than Gen Z men, a complete inversion of every previous generation. The adult entertainment industry has bled into mainstream culture, and platforms like OnlyFans are projected to claim one in three women by the end of the decade. Girls raised on Instagram and TikTok are now being told that monetizing their sexuality is empowerment, that turning their bodies into content is liberating, and that modesty is oppression. Meanwhile, young men are checking out of relationships altogether. One in three reports being a virgin into their twenties, not because of religious conviction, but because of despair. They have stopped trying. They have lost hope. Many have embraced the label “incel” as a badge of bitter identity, retreating into echo chambers of self-loathing and woman-hating.
This cultural implosion has created a bizarre dynamic. Men are becoming more religious, while women are becoming more irreligious. Pew and Barna both confirm that young men are more likely to attend church, more likely to believe in God, and more likely to affirm traditional moral values than their female peers. In the words of one frustrated young man, “It feels like all the godly women already married pastors or missionaries at 19. The rest are either feminists or recovering from being one.” That line, however sarcastic, is becoming more real every year. We are facing a demographic collapse of biblical proportions. Marriage rates are plummeting. Birth rates are falling. And many Christian young men are discovering that the pool of chaste, godly women is not just shallow. It is nearly dry.
WHEN THE MATH DOESN’T ADD UP
Let us imagine a young man. He loves the Lord. He believes the Bible. He wants to marry a godly, virgin woman and raise children in the nurture and admonition of Christ. He is not picky. He is not superficial. He is simply obeying the biblical expectation that marriage is honorable and that sexual purity is good. But he looks around and sees a landscape filled with women who carry the wounds of their past, who once walked in the ways of Babylon, who have only recently begun walking toward Jerusalem. What is he to do?
I am not saying he should lower his standards. I am not saying he must accept any woman simply because she claims to be saved. I am not saying that the wounds of the past carry no consequences. What I am saying is that the math is not in his favor. The cultural rot is too deep. The statistics are too overwhelming. Unless he is prepared to remain single forever or seek a wife in a foreign land, he may need to face a reality that his theology has not yet prepared him for. He may meet a woman who loves Jesus, walks in repentance, weeps over her sin, and carries a past that would make the Pharisees hiss.
And when that happens, he will need more than personal preferences. He will need a theology of redemption. He will need to understand the doctrine of expiation. He will need to know that Christ did not die merely to forgive sins, but to remove them. He will need to believe that the Gospel does not leave stains in place but washes them clean. He will need to embrace the radical, offensive, scandalous truth that the blood of Christ is not just strong enough to get someone into heaven—it is strong enough to make them marriageable.
PREPARING FOR A BROKEN FUTURE
This is where the evangelical church must wake up. We have catechized our children in sexual ethics, but we have failed to equip them with gospel categories for redemption. We told them to wait for marriage. Good. We told them that virginity is beautiful. It is. But we also told them, often implicitly, that those who fail are damaged forever. That they are no longer good enough. That they carry a permanent scarlet letter. And now we are reaping the consequences. Our young men are either bitter incels who believe women are ruined forever, or they are terrified to pursue relationships altogether. And our young women, even those who are truly redeemed, are paralyzed by shame and fear, wondering if any man of God will ever see them as whole.
What we need is not to lower the bar of holiness. We need to raise the banner of grace. We need to tell our young people that sexual sin is deadly, destructive, and damnable, but that Jesus Christ is greater still. We need to preach a gospel that does not just offer forgiveness, but cleansing. We need to recover the ancient truth that expiation is not a metaphor. It is a divine transaction. It is the promise of God to take our sin, our shame, our filth, and our failure and remove it as far as the east is from the west.
That is what this article is about. Not excusing sin. Not minimizing consequences. But declaring war on the lie that grace is not enough. I have seen too many young men disillusioned by the dating market. I have seen too many young women redeemed by Christ but rejected by the church. The road ahead will be hard. The culture is broken. The scars are deep. But the blood is deeper still. And if we are going to survive what’s coming, we must teach our sons and daughters how to stand not just on law and order, but on mercy and blood.
Let us revisit the tweet that caused the uproar. “Better to marry a former OF model who has come to know the depths of her sin and the mercy of the Lord, than an unkissed virgin with a haughty look and a proud heart.” The immediate response was a flood of indignation from those who claim to love truth but choke on grace. And yet these same voices, so quick to recite solas and quote Spurgeon, failed to notice that their reaction revealed a distorted gospel. Because the real scandal here is not that the church would embrace the formerly unclean. The real scandal is that so many think God still sees her as unclean at all.
The statement made in that tweet is not radical. It is biblical. It reflects the plain teaching of Scripture that a repentant sinner is more pleasing to God than a self-righteous moralist. Promiscuity is a sin, yes. A devastating one. But pride is a worse one. The Bible does not merely frown upon pride. It declares war against it. It tells us that God resists the proud. Not dislikes. Not disapproves. Resists. He actively stands in opposition to them. Pride is not just a character flaw. It is an act of war against God’s authority and grace. It is the original sin of Lucifer, the poison in Eden, the root of every rebellion. And yet, there are those who would prefer a proud, unrepentant woman with a clean dating record over a broken, humble sinner who has wept at the feet of Jesus.
This is madness. Worse, it is unbelief.
THE BIBLICAL RECORD IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE
Let us consider the kind of women God uses in Scripture. Rahab was a prostitute. Bathsheba was an adulteress. The woman at the well had cycled through five husbands and was living with a man who was not her husband. Mary Magdalene had seven demons cast out of her. These are not morally pristine women. These are sinners who were transformed by grace. And they are honored in the pages of Scripture, not because their sins were small, but because their Savior was great.
Rahab is included in the genealogy of Christ. Bathsheba bore Solomon. The Samaritan woman became an evangelist to her village. Mary Magdalene was the first witness to the resurrection. God does not hide their pasts. He redeems them. He places them in His story to showcase the scandal of His mercy. If that offends you, then you are not offended by modern sexual ethics. You are offended by the God of Scripture.
The Pharisee invited Jesus to dine in his home. The prostitute broke into the room, wept over Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The Pharisee judged her. Jesus forgave her. He turned to him and said, “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” That is the heart of the Gospel. It is not that God tolerates sin. It is that He overcomes it with such extravagant mercy that those who are forgiven much love with a depth that the morally smug will never know.
THE GOSPEL IS STRONGER THAN YOUR CATEGORIES
This entire debate reveals a shallow theology of redemption. Many speak of the Gospel as if it is a transaction on paper, a legal technicality. They forget that it is a cosmic act of love that obliterates the record of sin, removes the stain, and makes the sinner into a new creation. This is not religious jargon. This is the doctrine of expiation. It is the promise that our guilt and our shame have been taken away, carried outside the camp, and destroyed. Christ does not merely forgive. He cleanses. He does not merely pardon. He removes.
Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. That is not a metaphor. It is a divine decree. If a woman was once on OnlyFans and now walks in the fear of the Lord, then her past has been drowned in the sea of forgetfulness. It stands tall, blood-stained, and radiant, declaring that no one is too dirty for the love of God. Not the woman caught in adultery. Not the harlot who anointed His feet. Not the OnlyFans girl who now worships with hands lifted in holy reverence. Christ is not ashamed of her. Neither should we be.
Because if His blood is not enough to make her clean, then it is not enough to make any of us clean. And if that is true, we are all damned. But it is not true. He is risen. The blood still speaks. And it speaks better things than shame.
THE POWER OF EXPIATION IN AN IMPURE WORLD
The louder our culture groans under the weight of its own filth, the more vital it is that we recover and preach the doctrine of expiation with clarity, conviction, and force. We are not going back to a world where everyone expects to marry a virgin. That world is gone. The reality is that millions of young Christian men, no matter how faithfully they walk, will be faced with the choice to either remain single indefinitely or marry a woman with a past. And if the church does not give them a strong theology of redemption to navigate this, they will fall into the same trap as the Pharisees. They will mistake past sin for present disqualification. They will believe the lie that God’s grace is enough to get you into heaven, but not enough to make you a wife.
Let us be very clear. This is not an argument for relaxing moral standards. We do not celebrate past promiscuity. We grieve it. We hate what it has done to the souls and bodies of young women. We hate what it has done to the possibility of godly homes and stable marriages. But we believe the Gospel is stronger than its consequences. We believe that the cross of Christ not only pays the penalty of sin but removes the shame of it. We believe that God’s grace is sufficient not just to forgive the prostitute, but to give her a husband, a family, a future, and a name.
TO THE YOUNG MEN: DO NOT MOCK REDEMPTION
To the young men reading this, I say this: the world is broken, but your calling has not changed. You were not made to be a permanent bachelor. You were not made to sit behind a screen, waiting for a unicorn to descend from heaven. You were made to lead, to love, to marry, to father. And that means you may one day meet a woman whose past makes you pause. Ask the right questions. Use discernment. But if she is in Christ, if she walks in holiness, if she hates her past and clings to the blood of Jesus, then do not let your fear of man outweigh your fear of God. Do not let pseudo-science about “pair bonding” override your theology. That junk theory was cooked up by the same culture that made purity into a performance and turned virginity into currency. It is not truth. It is not Scripture. It is not Gospel.
You believe in a God who heals the blind, raises the dead, and calls sinners His bride. You believe in a Spirit who transforms hearts and rewrites stories. You believe in a Savior who bled out not just to forgive you, but to cleanse your future wife. Do not pretend to hold to that Gospel and then treat her like used merchandise. That is hypocrisy. That is cruelty. That is unbelief.
TO THE YOUNG WOMEN: YOUR SHAME IS NOT YOUR NAME
To the young women reading this, hear me: you are not damaged goods. You are not second-class. You are not too far gone. If you are in Christ, then you are a new creation. Not a repaired version of your old self. A new self. A holy self. A beloved daughter of the King. Your past is not your name. Your shame is not your identity. The blood of Christ did not leave part of you unwashed. It did not leave one corner of your story untouched. He took all of it. He paid all of it. And now you are His.
Do not listen to the voices who sneer behind their screens, calling you names that Christ has erased. Do not be defined by those who judge what God has justified. They are not your judge. They are not your groom. The one who loves you rightly will love you because of grace, not in spite of it. The man God is preparing for you will not treat you like a rescue mission. He will treat you like a gift. He will not idolize your past or ignore it, but he will honor the blood that washed it away.
TO THE CHURCH: STOP CALLING REDEEMED WOMEN WHORES
And to those who mock redeemed women, who use words like “whore,” “hoe,” “harlot,” and other venomous slurs for daughters of Zion whom Christ has called His own, you are standing in the place of Satan. He is the accuser of the brethren, and you have joined his chorus. Every time you shame a sister for a sin Christ already paid for, you spit on the cross and side with the serpent. Repent. Or be judged by the same measure with which you judge.
This is the Gospel: that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Not while we were waiting, or pure, or perfect. While we were vile. While we were lost. While we were whores in Babylon. He found us, washed us, clothed us, and called us beloved.
If you do not believe that Gospel is enough to make a sinner into a saint, a woman into a wife, a harlot into a holy one, then you do not believe the Gospel at all. And if you do believe it, then live like it. Marry like it. Speak like it. And raise your sons and daughters to cherish it.
Because in a world that trades in shame, only expiation brings freedom. In a world that traffics in memory, only Christ offers amnesia. In a world where sin is eternalized on the internet, only grace has the power to erase. The church does not need more shame-police. It needs more blood-preachers. It needs more saints who understand that salvation does not just forgive. It transforms. It cleans. It restores. It marries. It mothers. It fathers. It builds. It loves.
And that is why, in a world where redemption is mocked and grace is considered naive, we will keep saying it:

Let’s look at those horrible 12 verses in John showing Christ’s forgiveness for an adulteress: He not only said, “Go and sin no more,” but He also died on the cross to pay for her adultery just a few weeks later, then rose again in victory over sin, death, and hell.
Compare to Paul in 1 Cor. 6:9-11 (NIV), “[9] Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, [10] nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” And of course Paul goes on to uphold God’s standards of sexual purity in the following verses, but never forgetting the power of the Holy Spirit through the Sovereign, saving Gospel to “WASH”, “SANCTIFY”, and “JUSTIFY” the individuals in his audience.
Please never forget that our salvation from start to finish is THE WORK OF THE LORD, and if you would show contempt and resent and despise His trophies of grace, His power to cleanse and heal and forgive, and His providential protection of His children until He allows them times of trials or calls them home in death, then it is YOU, my brother—NOT blood-bought ex-adulterers and ex-homosexuals and ex-fornicators—who bear the rotting and spoiled fruit of the enemy, who has sown tares among the wheat, and leavened churches with false doctrines and false teachers to teach them. Moody, etc., right up to today—who accept the validity and historical authenticity of the Received Text, the Majority Text, and so forth, and therefore believe the “pericope” is authentic inspired Scripture, are not the cause of the modern plague of promiscuity, nor are giving “women excuses to be whores” and are not going “to hell for it.”

If a woman is truly saved, then yes, she will try to be faithful. As a faithful single man could I accept a woman with a past? Yes. It would have to be an act of God though. Disease? No. Kids? Well said, Oscar. I tend to agree, and would say that it takes time for fruit to bear, to know whether or not repentance is genuine. Redemption is indeed an act of God, so we should not weigh in with blanket collective judgment. Repentant women (and men) who have very sinful pasts need to know that their life isn’t ruined and over. It’s not over until God says it’s over.
It seems to me that Staff Writer’s post was not intended to be an either or, but rather a thinking and discernment exercise to consider. I.e., if your only choice was one or the other, which should you choose. In reality, those are not the two only choices. So it should not be treated as a false dilemma to argue against, but rather an exercise of discernment.
If I could give any advice to young single men, it would be to get a hobby. And avoid anything that would stir up sexual desires. Put the Lord first and fear Him above all else. Because one day this is all going to burn (2 Pet. 3)
The reason is that you must learn to be led by the spirit and not the flesh. You have to be ready to lead your household. As a person who led a decent sized singles group for several years, I can tell you that the women are church had an unwritten rule that they would not date a man that went to church with them. They would treat men in the group with disgust. This is not outlier behavior. Treating good men with disgust is consistent with society and what I have observed in many marriages both secular and Christian over many years.
It is a much less expensive investment to consider dating overseas then trying to weed out a woman who will never feel as though you are valuable.
