Baylor University Returns $643K Pro-LGBTQ Grant, Gets Called Out by Grant-Giver For Hypocrisy

Baylor University, one of the largest and oldest Baptist universities in the world, has rescinded a $643,000 grant from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation intended to promote LGBTQ acceptance within the church. Was it a principled stance, or something altogether different

The grant was awarded to Baylor’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work “to foster inclusion and belonging in the church,” with a focus on understanding “the disenfranchisement and exclusion of LGBTQIA+ individuals and women within congregations to nurture institutional courage and foster change.” However, public outcry from the university’s community, including churches, partner organizations, and supporters, prompted a swift reversal.

Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone addressed the backlash in a statement, noting that the outcry “caused concern and confusion for many within the Baylor Family and among our broader community of churches, partner organizations, and supporters.” She revealed that the grant recipients “have voluntarily offered to rescind their acceptance of this grant on behalf of the School of Social Work and return all associated funds to the granting foundation.”

But Livingstone is talking out of both sides of her mouth. After saying, “We remain committed to providing a loving and caring community for all – including our LGBTQIA+ students,” she shares, “As we reviewed the details and process surrounding this grant, our concerns did not center on the research itself, but rather on the activities that followed as part of the grant. Specifically, the work extended into advocacy for perspectives on human sexuality that are inconsistent with Baylor’s institutional policies, including our Statement on Human Sexuality.”

“Please be assured that Baylor’s institutional beliefs and policies remain unchanged. Our commitment to our Christian mission and our historic Baptist identity continues to guide our approach to academics, student life, and spiritual formation. We affirm the biblical understanding of human sexuality as a gift from God, expressed through purity in singleness and fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman.”

But Baylor is thoroughly compromised, as we’ve cataloged over the last few years. They have several staff members who have been openly promoting LGBTQ ideology for years, including a pro-choice, gay-affirming, trans-affirming professor, and their other greatest hits featured below reveals the true heart and trajectory of the storied University.

The Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation expressed disappointment in Baylor’s decision, suggesting the move was less about principle and more about external pressure. In a statement, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees said, “We are deeply saddened by Baylor’s decision to cancel the recent ‘Courage from the Margins’ research grant following an online campaign of fear and misinformation.” They noted that a similar project, funded by the foundation and run by Baylor’s School of Social Work over the past three years, “has yielded significant insights,” implying the university’s reversal was a reaction to being caught rather than a stand on conviction. The Foundation concluded, “While we are disheartened by this decision, the Baugh Foundation’s commitment to supporting progressive, inclusive, and justice-oriented work remains unwavering.”

Adding some information about President Livingstone, Megan Basham writes on X:

“Further, in her role as board member of the NCAA, she refused to speak up on behalf of young female athletes who appealed to her to use her position to help keep men out of women’s sports.”

  1. I don’t believe a genuine, truly born again Christian would push God’s limits in such a manner. A recent article contained a post from Tom Buck calling out such “creativity”. And there are many other scriptures about not pushing the limits, the Sermon on the Mount, for example (not pushing God’s limits is just about the entire theme of that message)

It’s as if they want to see what they can get away with. As if mankind’s opinion means anything at all. As if they could fool almighty God on the day of judgment. It seems to me that such individuals do not truly believe. Their idea of “progressing” mankind is to push beyond and away from the limits that God has established.

She has failed to honor scripture related to women “pastors”, and it’s no surprise she’s not honoring certain others.

According to 1 Cor. 5, the sexually immoral and transvestites should not be allowed to attend the school at all. So, as far as I’m concerned, any claims of adherence to and respect for scripture, or the Baptist faith and message, are worthless. If they cared about God’s word, then they’d do what it tells them to do. And they would recognize that doing what God says to do is always the most loving and caring thing to do. Always.
