Goodbye Hillsong! Another US-Based Hillsong Church Goes Their Own Way + Separates To Form New Entity

Hillsong Church lost another campus in the United States after Hillsong San Francisco opted to part ways with the mothership and form its own separate and distinct church, according to an announcement shared by Hillsong Global Senior Leader Phil Dooley.

We’re thankful that our San Francisco campus is a healthy church with so many wonderful, wonderful people. Well…after much prayer and thoughtful consideration, we’re announcing that Brenden and Jacqui Brown will be taking on the leadership of our church community in San Francisco as a separate church, so separating from what has been part of Hillsong California.

Now, we believe the time is right for this. This is an exciting season for the Browns and for our church in San Francisco, and we want to say how much we love Brenden and Jacqui, and we value their dedication, their sacrifice, and their commitment to pastoring and leading the Hillsong San Francisco community.

Hillsong Church has lost 11 of its 16 campuses in the United States in the last five years, starting with the loss of NYC Hillsong and the Carl Lentz scandal.

The losses were exacerbated after Brian Houston was given the boot for his own scandalous indiscretions and after a major financial scandal was revealed where it was uncovered that Hillsong leaders were spending money like drunken pirates. (see endnotes).

Hillsong also lost Hillsong College last year, leaving only 5 Hillsong churches left in the country.

Following the new announcement, California Lead Pastor Sam Lopez explained that the impetus to separate came after campus pastors Brenden and Jacqui Brown told Hillsong leadership that they had a “fresh vision” for their future, which did not include Hillsong.
