Phil Johnson Gives Update On His Cancer Battle + Good News About John MacArthur’s Health
Phil Johnson, the executive director of the Grace to You ministry, has shared health updates for himself and Grace Community Church pastor John MacArthur, and they both battle serious ailments.
In early June of 20204, Johnson, 71, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, “a kind of blood cancer that lets the proteins in my blood attack other organs.” He noted that Multiple Myeloma is not curable, but the treatment should make it go into remission, quipping: “the goal, as I understand it, is to keep me alive long enough for something else to kill me.”
Since then, Johnson has been receiving treatments and has spent the last week in the hospital, with more time to go. Because his hair has started falling out, he decided to buzz it, sharing:
“Several people asked why my beard hasn’t fallen out. The hair atop my head was not coming out in clumps; I was shedding like a Welsh Corgi. My pillow was covered with individual hairs this morning. So I had the top shorn. I’ll keep the beard as long as possible.”
As for MacArthur, 85, he’s finally home after spending 7 weeks in the hospital recovering from heart surgery, with Johnson asking for prayer for the beloved minister.
