Vatican Unveils Nativity Scene Featuring Baby Jesus Swaddled in a Keffiyeh

Weeks after Pope Francis called for an investigation into whether or not Israel was committing genocide in the Middle East, the Vatican has unveiled a new nativity scene featuring Jesus lying on a keffiyeh, a type and pattern of scarf used by Palestinians as a national symbol. 

While there is no such thing as a ‘good’ pope, Francis has been particularly noxious and vexatious, doing things like affirming the faith of Joe Biden and saying he would never refuse him communion because the President’s love for abortion is between him and God, endorsing civil unions for gay couples, appointing multiple pro-choice people to his pro-life organization, saying that he’s open to priests blessing homosexual relationships, so long as there is no suggestion that they’re blessing gay marriages, and continuing to promote and endorse notorious LGBTQ-affirming priest James Martin.

According to the Times of Israel:

Speaking at the event, a wheelchair-bound Francis called on believers to “remember the brothers and sisters, who, right there [in Bethlehem] and in other parts of the world, are suffering from the tragedy of war,” adding, “enough war, enough violence!” and lamenting the existence of the commercial arms trade.

The keffiyeh-draped cradle, which will be displayed in the Paul VI Hall, is one of a series of nativity scenes collectively titled “Nativity of Bethlehem 2024,” designed by artists Johny Andonia and Faten Nastas Mitwasi, both Palestinians from Bethlehem, according to Vatican News.

The nativity scene was organized as a joint partnership between the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, an arm of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the Vatican’s Palestinian embassy.
